Hi All! Happy Friday Eve ;D When I get home from work, me and Dexter generally just laze around. We have a run round the house, go on walks and chill out on the couch. I've been thinking about taking him to dog/puppy training. I was just wondering what we're likely to do at these classes and if people rate going to them. Thanks!
Re: Training School Questions Hi Paige. I have just finished a 6 week puppy training class. They taught sit, lie down, stand, recall, lead walking, sit and wait, how to get them to stay still while u check their ears, paws etc, sit and wIt for treat , finish (stops them bowling u over when they are coming back to u), and generally puppy socialisation. I had done most of this with Harley before I joined, but could never do a lot of this when distractions were around (especially other dogs!). It has been a fantastic experience for us Definitely worth considering it if you can Ternaya and Harley (5 months old)
Re: Training School Questions Thanks Ternaya! I knew I could call on people on the forum for advice ;D I've literally just emailed a local school to ask if Dexter is still classed as a puppy now he's 7months old. He's still a puppy to me ha ha I was thinking he can sit, stay, lie down now but I think more than anything it's the socialisation aspect that I want for him (me too I suppose) but reinforcing anything he knows doesn't bother me at all. It's no harm is it Out of curiosity, do they teach anything about lead walking or jumping up at people? It's something we're working on (still!) but I'm starting to think its a losing battle :'(
Re: Training School Questions My class did teach about lead walking - it has worked brilliantly.....Harley rarely pulls on lead now She touched briefly on jumping in the class sessions, but was happy to answer my questions afterwards . I am still working on this one, it is getting better, but raking a bit longer. Our class only had 8 pups who had to be under 18 weeks when they started. I do know they do a next class up for older pups. Good luck
Re: Training School Questions I think its very much a personal decision but there definately isnt any harm in it. We took our puppy on a 6 week training class and after a bit of a rocky start..he ended up really enjoying it! Its nice to see them playing and socializing with other dogs too I wouldnt say we gained much from it that we didnt already know (lead walking, sit, recall, heel work etc) but it was definately good for him I think. If you're really lucky, you'll have a nice sleepy puppy when you get home too ;D

It only takes an hour of exercise an dexter sleeps for the next four or five hours ha ha. Bliss! :
