Hi, was wondering what everyone includes in their training sessions. I am doing lots of off lead recall training with Rolo. He has been trained to sit and stay for his meals. He does an excellent sit for my daughter not a good one for me at all. He sits for a treat but wont if there isn't a treat.

Just wanted an insight to what other people do.

Are you also using hand signals Kris? It helps back up what you are teaching and looks most impressive when you can get your dog to obey with simple hand movements. The ability to control your dog silently can come in very handy.

I taught Molly to 'wait' by placing kibble on the floor in front of her and telling her to wait. She can only have it when she gets her release word which is OK. It does have a serious purpose as it teaches her some self control.

"Give paw" is a fun one, and usually very easily learnt.

Don't do as I did. I taught Molly to recall with the word "Come" and I beat my chest with the flat of my hand. The time something 'went down the way' and I was smacking my chest with my hand I was rewarded by a dog prancing around my feet

I use a hand signal for sit so don't always say the word now. For training, I have done sit, stay (walk away, then come back going further each time), wait (put a treat on my knee and count to 10 then say 'go on' - extended this to 15 seconds now), paw, drop (drop the ball yo get a treat - I now only do random treats), leave (when she has something she shouldn't - rewards now random too, depending on what she has got), find it (hide treats all over the living room and kitchen), hide and seek with a ball/toy. I do mist of these most days and in different environments.
It all depends on what you want from your dog and how much training you want to do :)
