I've been clicker trying with holly since she was 8 weeks old she can do sit, liedown, up and to a certain extent leave it. If the treat is in my hand she gets very excited and bites and licks at my hand but if I say leave it she will stop and look to me instead but if the treat is on the floor she ignores leave it but were working on it. Yesterday we started learning fetch which is going quite well she kind if gets it My worry is, all the videos I've watched the pups seem so calm and in control holly is well very lively and although she does listen and do what I ask she gets very giddy after the click and begins to jump up. Is she just a lively pup or am I doing something wrong? I have lovely big scratch on my hand from her jumping at me to get the treat.
I know! I always think the demo dogs look already perfectly trained! Charlie NEVER co-operates like the dogs on the vids. I think to be fair though, my fault is I take it in too big steps. But still, where a dog in a video will, say, calmly pick something up and bring it, Charlie would pounce on it like a big podgy brown cat then comes dancing, jumping, and prancing back! Holly looks absolutely lovely! What a pretty girl.
Re: Training with clicker Yes! Exactly they all calmly walk about doing stuff and holly just jumps and bounds and looks adorably excited to be doing it she falls over herself in her haste and excitement! Thank you I also think she is very pretty too
Re: Training with clicker Hi Drina, I think most puppies jump up and get really excited. The videos that are online most probably take ages to perfect ;D Holly is adorable
Re: Training with clicker I'm convinced that those videos don't show you the first session... I had scratches on the back of my right hand for a time when Brew was throwing herself excitedly into a down, but seeing to believe she needed to hit my hand on the way there... Solved it by only using C&T when she dropped down without making contact, but my hand looked impressive for a while... :-[ Clare
Re: Training with clicker I'll keep at it in the hope eventually my hand no longer looks like this It's a good job she is super cute!
Totally agree with that....
Yep, absolutely. Sounds like you are doing really, really well with Holly. And she is the cutest little thing ever As for scratches.....I have a scratch on my face from where Obi trod on my head when I was lying in bed this morning : I'll swap you for the hand scratch... ;D
Re: Training with clicker Oh my goodness that is such a sweet picture!! Yes, we all get our war wounds....I don't have as many scratches now but I am sporting a lovely bruise on my leg from a full-speed collision with Simba's (very hard) head...
And I bet he ran off without seemingly even noticing he'd collided with anything, didn't he? Love him! Clare
Re: Training with clicker I'll keep the hand scratch one in the face does not sound pleasant Thank you for the replies it's nice to know I'm not completely messing it up Maybe I should post a vid of holly to show how real pups learn with bounds and leaps and over excitement! Although this mornings training I held the treat in my closed hand until she sat down calmly which worked quite well so will keep on this!
