Yesterday we went to the Working Clumber Spaniel Society training over in Exmoor. I've been thinking about having a Clumber Spaniel for a while and I wanted to watch some doing some training. We had a fabulous time and Riley was welcomed with open arms so we joined in with some retrieving. We had a very happy day and here are a few photos, courtesy of Heidrun of course! Us doing the haybale scurry, Riley got the hang of it and was quite fast but I recalled him just before he picked the dummy up on his best run - silly handler : We trained with dummies and some cold partridge that one of the members had brought with them. Riley handled all with aplomb and I was told I could take him picking up if I wanted to just to watch for running in. There were shots fired on all the retrieves for all the dogs and not a hair was turned During the scurry lots of people had more than one dog so I got to borrow a dog for some cuddles!
Re: Training with spaniels and a cheeky scurry! Brilliant!!!!!!! Good boy Riley - no problem with the guns then?? Fantastic!!! 8) 8) 8)
Re: Training with spaniels and a cheeky scurry! It was a starting pistol Karen so nothing too dramatic but his response was good. Heard the shot ears up and looking towards the retrieve
Re: Training with spaniels and a cheeky scurry! Great day yesterday! Especially the scurry was fantastic fun. ;D A few more photos of Barbara and Riley.
Re: Training with spaniels and a cheeky scurry! He is so handsome! We don't see enough photos of him. Not easy to take good photos of black dogs Heidrun - good job there!
Re: Training with spaniels and a cheeky scurry! Thanks Karen. Yes, not easy, especially when they have a super shiny coat like Riley!
Re: Training with spaniels and a cheeky scurry! Wonderful photos and sounds like it was a great day. So is it full steam ahead for getting a clumber spaniel now?
Re: Training with spaniels and a cheeky scurry! Aw Riley is so handsome Great photos and looks like you had a ball Barbara, any puppy Clumber pictures any time sooooon I saw one last week in our village, she was such a pretty little girlie xxx
Re: Training with spaniels and a cheeky scurry! Wonderful photos - he looks in super condition and as if he is really enjoying it. We used to go to training classes with a clumber but I don't think it was from a working strain, it did everything at a very slow rate. Alice
Re: Training with spaniels and a cheeky scurry! The days sounds great and the photos are wonderful......you really suit a Clumber Barbara
Re: Training with spaniels and a cheeky scurry! Lovely dog, Barbara. Wonderful and successful day out too. Very envious here!

Alice [/quote] Alice, this is Bliss the winning Clumber in the scurry. I don't think anyone has told her that she is a Clumber and should be doing things at a more sedate pace. ;D She beat my Alice in the scurry, and she is no slouch. ;D
Re: Training with spaniels and a cheeky scurry! Oh Wow! Stunning Stunning photos Heidrun. What a lovely fun day. The one of Riley with the blue dummy is just fabulous.
Re: Training with spaniels and a cheeky scurry! Bliss was an absolute rocket!! ;D It was really, really fun and relaxed while at the same time really productive. We've followed up with our usual training class today and Riley was brilliant....we kept up the relaxed approach, concentrating on the important things and being really positive ;D
