Giving Tara a brush, on Tuesday, and found a mottled grey lump on her right hind leg. Took to vet, who said might be result of insect or other bite, or thorn scratch, but may be tumour. Had operation on Thursday, and removed tumour, about size on a large marble. Sent off for testing, but hoping benign. Tara now not happy, with Buster collar and stitches in her leg - at 17 months, she wants to be out playing!

Poor Tara that's very rough. My girl Hattie who is 8 years old had a lump removed on her right hind leg a year ago, the vet wasn't sure what it was, thankfully it turned out to be nothing which was a relief and she recovered quickly. A word of advice, don't be tempted to take the collar off as she will chew the stitches and possibly infect it. I trusted Hattie for a short while and bingo she chewed them and ended up on antibiotics for a week. It's not worth the risk.

There is a section on the forum about keeping dogs out of action occupied which might help Tara as she is so young. I hope the lump is nothing to worry about but do let us know. Get better soon Tara xx :)

Poor lass. Hope it's nothing - most lumps are harmless.

Def agree with Helen/Charlie's advice to resist any temptation to take the cone off too soon. Dogs like to remove stitches and staples if they can easily reach them.... Also avoid touching the wound as staph infections originating from human skin are a possibility.

Hope it all heals up perfectly though - I'm sure she's getting the best of care!

Oh Tara, Pongo sends his sympathies..... he HATED his cone of shame. It took him ages to learn that he couldn't get through narrow spaces any more.
Fingers crossed for results - you did all the right things quickly, and I'm sure it will be fine. Let us know, we'll be thinking of you....
