Floor coverings have vexed me for sometime...when Charlie first had problems with his ligaments I dashed down to the nearest Carpet Right and bought a stack of very cheap rugs. They weren't at all nice. No reflection on Carpet Right, it's just they were an emergency buy and I wanted to spend as little as possible. Then I went to B&Q and bought a stack of rubber backed doormats and had all my hard floors covered with these non-slip rugs and mats in a day. I thought that I'd get round to sorting out something more permanent in time. I actually really just wanted my lovely, white, Italian floor tiles back. But that's never going to happen. If Charlie so much as missteps it gives me a heart attack. So permanent and non slip covering it has to be for two large areas of the kitchen and breakfast room. I don't want to redo the floor, the tiles are huge and lovely and when I want to sell the house etc. blah blah. I also hated the rugs in the kitchen. They got disgustingly dirty with Charlie trailing in mud etc. I found a company called "unnatural flooring". They make rugs and carpets from polypropylene in the style of sisal and seagrass. I love it. It doesn't look or feel like plastic at all. And it can be mopped. Great. A sisal looking rug that can be mopped. So far, so good. One of the rugs they do (not mine, I got a slightly less hardy one but it can still be mopped with hot water and soap) can be pressure washed....fab. A rug that you can clean with a Karcher.
That looks really nice. When our first Lab, Ginger, was about 15 she started having a lot of trouble on the vinyl floors in our kitchen. We bought a bunch of indoor/outdoor carpet from Home Depot and put down runners in the kitchen. Both Tilly and Cooper get along on the slick vinyl floors OK. Till would be happier if they were all carpet, but it won't happen until she has significant problems with the hard floors. The Oak floors don't seem to be any problem, but the LVT in our cabin is slick and I see both dogs slip on it occasionally.
I've been really happy with the rugs. One has got a bit grubby where we stand round the sink, which no doubt wouldn't happen if I mopped it more often! I could scrub it though....and I will, when I get round to it.....
