Hello My 9 year old lab had high Alt and was showing signs of liver problems, took her to local vet who just did not have a clue and just wanted money after money, got her reffered to Dick Whites vet in cambridge. They performed a load of tested and cared for her and kept me in touch calling me 3 times a day. She end up having a biopsy performed on her liver. it has come back as having high copper count, test are still on going. if you have a lab 5 years and over it is highly recommended that you get a blood test every year as it is very common for labs to have liver problems and not show any signs until it is very late on Thanks Paul
A good reminder Paul , lets hope your girl will now be alright as the levels have been detected . I completely agree re the not showing signs , I lost a Lab to liver disease four years ago , we hadn't noticed any difference in her behaviour or health until it was too late to help her .
I am sorry to hear that, being my first dog im still learning everything about health , food etc, but since we have took her off dog food and cook her own food she is a differant dog, she does not smell and runs around now with so much energy vets cant believe she is 9 years old Paul
Gosh,I,have never heard that,I'm the same as you ,learning as I go along with our first dog. What are high copper levels indicative of?I haven't looked it up yet.....I'm really glad you have found a vet that is taking your concerns seriously and testing her thoroughly.I' m glad you are seeing such a great improvement in her following her diet change x
I was going to ask the same question as Angela about the copper. Good to hear that you have been able to see a specialist. I hope you can get to the bottom of it. I'm sure you just want your girl to be completely well and not have to worry about these things...
