It was two weeks ago tonight that Millie had her emergency eye surgery , the whole weekend was a bit of a shock to be honest as we hadn't realised the severity of the condition . The first few days were just awful as she was in great pain, despite lots of medications , she was depressed and very unhappy indeed and her eye was closed a lot of the time , but when it was open, it looked shocking . However , the wonderfully gifted surgeon Chris Warren was thrilled with her progress as was our own Vet who declared it to be a fantastic piece of wizardry So , two weeks on , they eye does indeed look strange as we had been told it would , one part of the pupil looks normal but the larger part is grey where the transplant was placed , so she has a two tone pupil , what the heck , she can still see out of it albeit a compromised vision . The other eye is fine thank goodness after a worrying few days of watching it very carefully and applying drops , she still has drops in the poorly eye and truly doesn't mind, in fact she will hold her head up to us when she sees the drops coming The conjunctivie (sp) have been badly disturbed so her eye still looks a little bloodshot in the corner, but no infection is left . In herself , she is happy and pain free , she has bumped into things a time or two, but has her own personal guide dog for the visually impaired She really has been amazing , stoic and stubborn to the last , typical terrier attitude of " I can and I will " she no longer wears her buster collar and can have little off lead sessions , as long as we are away from brambles etc . I am told that complete recovery can take some time yet, but we are thrilled with her so far , a little star
Re: Update on Millie Great news that the worst is far behind It's been such a trauma for you all. Millie is such a gutsy little lass.
Re: Update on Millie I'm so glad Millie is doing so well. I've been wondering how she is. Lovely little thing lifting her head for her drops. Such a good dog and as the saying goes you can't keep a good dog down. ;D. She wasnt going to let some nasty bug get the better of her. ;D Well done all of you for getting each other through such a horrid time. ;D
Re: Update on Millie Aww what a brave little dog, and amazing she lifts her head for the eyedrops, especially as her eyes have obviously caused such discomfort
