Quick question..... Dex has been really windy over the last week and really loose stools started last night.....this morning was okish but Chris has just walked him now and said he's really loose and it's yellowish.......oh no,nothing else please. my question is shall I starve him tonight and see how he is in the morning.....I know I should but it's going to kill me as much as him...... He's pacing the floor now looking for his dinner,do I just suck it up and starve him?sorry to just dive in but it's time critical as it's dinner time !!!! X

Hi Angela , poor you and Dexter , if it were me , I would try a small meal of boiled cooled rice and a little chicken or even scrambles eggs with a bit of rice , both these are easily digestable and just see how he does with it ? Fingers crossed for you xxx

I agree with Kate Angela and you know how much experience I've had with dodgy bowels! ::)

I think I've mentioned it before but the method of treating diarrhea in dogs differs depending on the vet.
Old school vets would say starve to let the gut rest but the new theory is to feed to help get rid of whatever is causing the problem and to help restore the gut.

So I do a bit of both. First day I would give about a third of his normal ration. The next day if he doesn't go or has improved two thirds, third day normal.

    Hope Dex is feeling better

    Jen

    He truly tortures me....

Just made him a scrambled egg and rice but I only have brown rice hope that's not too grainy on his tum...

Oh Jen,I've not had the extremes you've had but I've had a bad time getting him right before...I really hope we aren't going down your path......thanks for dropping me a line x

I've just had a smashing week with him,he's been brilliant, feel a bit low now :(

Can't blame you for being worried - you've had enough to cope with lately. Hope the scrambled eggs settle his tum. Poor Dex.

    Poor thing ;)

Lilly's poop varies depending on how much she has been given in household "scraps", how much grass she eats, how much she scavenges on walks, so its sometimes difficult to know what is normal.
Has he had access to anything different?
I do hope he is more himself very soon. :*

    Re: Upset tum......

Jacqui the only thing he has apart from his kibble and steamed chicken is...roast chicken( but I've stopped that since the wind ???) dates that he picks up sometimes in the park ( he'll walk past 5 date palms and their windfall but then dive on the windfall of the 6 th) but we've been really careful this last week,I can't say he hasn't had a couple though....and disgusting as this sounds he's always rooting round where the cats go in the park....he will NOT recall from a spot where they've gone ....i have to march up to him and get him on the lead :( AND even more disgusting he brought a dead, rotting mouse, compete with worms to me on Friday morning......the loose bowels has started since then but the wind was there previously.....I have to say he's been a lot less offensive smelling this eve since the rice and egg......I'll see how he is tomorrow x

Ah Poppy, hope you are a bit better today...Dexter is back to normal in the number 2 department....I've kept him on the chicken and rice though for his meal this morning as we truly noticed an improvement in his windy problem last night....hope it's just a blip and I don't have to change his food....

Yes, she's had 'the runs' for a couple of days. On rice and chicken now. We've just been for a trip down the garden - that's why I'm up and on the forum at such an ungodly hour!
