Hi all. Our puppy to be has just been born and we are due to pick them up last week of December. We have a crate ready which I was going to line with the vet bedding stuff. Now, my initial plan was to cover the whole bottom of the crate with the vet bedding and make sure we take him out for toileting as I didn't want him to use one side of the crate for it. However, I have been advised by a couple of people to put his food and water at one end, with puppy pads, and use the other end as his bed. I didn't want to do this really as I don't want him to think it's ok to go to the toilet in his crate. Does anyone have any opinions or advise on this? Thanks
If you commit early to getting him toilet trained you won't even need puppy pads in the house nevermind the crate. Give him the chance to prove he can pick up toilet habits quickly. It's better to accept a few accidents indoors and get him toilet trained quicker than to become dependent on puppy pads. You might subconsciously slack of with toilet training if you use puppy pads. You clearly are committed if you are already thinking about this stuff almost two months early
Thanks guys! I’m glad to have confirmation that I was on the right track. We don’t want to use puppy pads or anything at all really. Will encourage outside for it, any accidents I would rather just deal with, for the sake of not having them toilet in the crate!
