Molly was in the garden today and I was watching through the window. She'd managed to pull a long stick from the hedge and was clearly pretending it was something else - she was play-bowing to it and then pouncing, worrying it a bit, then backing off and making funny 'Scooby-Doo' type noises (you know not barking but sounding as if she was trying to talk). It did make me laugh. It set me thinking about other times I've seen dogs playing alone. Years ago, my cocker invented a game with pebbles that she entertained herself with regularly. She would lie down and then pick up the pebbles one by one and balance them carefully on her front legs. When she had a few on each leg she would suddenly jump up so the pebbles fell off and then start again. I think dogs have more imagination than is generally believed.
Re: Using their imagination Oh that mad me smile, it's so cute when they play by themselves! Penny has a favourite stuffed toy that we call Big Grey Dog. Because he's grey and he's a dog lol she likes to carry him around by the ear and dangle him over the edge of the bed, pretend to let go and catch him again.
Re: Using their imagination I agree with you, Joy, they are pretty clever Your Cocker was a smart dog to invent that game with the stones.
Re: Using their imagination The stone game sounds very clever.....I love the scooby doo noises too ;D
