Hattie's very best friend since they were pups Big 'H' a Labradoodle hasn't been well for a few weeks. He seemed to be trying to clear his nose, so off to the vet he went, he was given antibiotics for an infection but he was still not himself. His owner took him for further exploratory tests and whilst he was under his breathing became abnormal so they did an X-ray only to find a tumour on his lung which is cancerous. He is not even 10 years old, a month younger than Hattie. His owner phoned me this evening to tell me the awful news as he has been part of our lives all of his life. I have looked after him, walked him, cuddled and loved him as if he was my own. Not sure how long he has, he is on Metacam, but it won't be long as his owner wouldn't let him end his life in pain. We are going to take Harry and Hattie out for a final walk together which will be extremely sad xx
Oh I'm sorry to hear this Helen. Hattie & Harry will enjoy their walk, they are fortunate to be completely ignorant of the sad truth. Oh to be a dog.
OH Helen, that is so terribly sad. It sounds like Big H will leave lots of happy memories behind, enjoy your walk together although I imagine it will be difficult
Very sad. I'm sure Harry and Hattie will have a lovely walk together - and yes, ignorance is bliss for them.
What sad news , thankfully he has no idea of the sadness ,I hope you can all enjoy this most special of walks xxxx
So sad. Try to keep things upbeat on your walk, have fun and make some more happy memories. xx I took my pointer for a last walk the day before he was PTS, he had a great time with his friend Harvey. We have a lovely memory of him pinching Harvey's ball and bouncing around the field with it, looking as proud as punch because Harvey couldn't catch him.
So sad for you and the owner, but as others have said, the pups are none the wiser. I hope they romp around and have fun, while you two make wonderful memories.
