We are packing up the car tonight and driving to the UK tomorrow for a visit. Pops hasn't been over since she left the UK with us at eight weeks old! I'm looking forward to lots of new experiences for her, especially the sea! But am also a bit apprehensive, since there will be things she doesn't really know about, for instance staying with the OH's mother in a not very dog-friendly house... in the grounds of a castle... with a deer park where she will have to stay on a lead... and ducks on the lake that she's not allowed to chase... Fingers crossed all goes well with the long drive and especially the channel tunnel bit! Stay tuned for updates!
Re: Visit to the UK Have a safe and happy trip Karen , Poppy will be fine I`m sure , the beaches in Dorset are lovely and mostly dog friendly at this time of year , hope all goes well x
Re: Visit to the UK Have a safe journey, Karen. Don't worry about the channel crossing, my niece comes over from Germany quite often with her dogs and she says the crossing is easy peasy.
Re: Visit to the UK Hope it all goes well - there's always a bit of apprehension in new surroundings, isn't there? How long a drive are you looking at?
Re: Visit to the UK About six hours to Calais, where you have to have the papers checked and everything, so with the dog say an hour to be sure. Then you drive onto the train, and the actual crossing under the channel takes about 40 minutes. Then another hour and a half to my parents' house. So it's a long day!
Re: Visit to the UK good luck with your journey,.....i have been on the tunnel 6 or more times, poppy will be fine, my sister lives in france, not thinking of taking jasper any time soon, may be when he is 3 or 4

Re: Visit to the UK Would love to see pics. It sounds stunning. Hope the trip goes really smoothly I'm sure it will.
Re: Visit to the UK Best wishes for your trip Karen x I hope Poppy lies down unlike my daft boy....he has just about got the hang of sitting, and realising it's a more comfortable ride ( there's 18 speed bumps between mine and my sisters house! )he used to stand and gaze mournfully out the window, bracing himself for corners and bumps!my mums friend drove down to South Wales from Southport,Liverpool and Murphy her red setter stood up the whole way! Girls, and especially poppy will have more sense Good luck x
Re: Visit to the UK The trip to my parents' went really well, Poppy was a star, just lay quietly the whole way, wasn't phased by the channel tunnel (Lynne and Heidrun you were both right, it's a doddle ). She got on fine with my mum's dogs, and charmed all my family! Now OH has taken her on to Dorset, which may be more of a challenge for all concerned... I am staying here with my family for a while. Will keep you posted...
