I'm just wondering if anyone here has had any experience of this in their dog? If so, what symptoms were displayed?

I think it depends on which B vitamin it it Jules.
B12 deficiency causes anaemia, B1 (Thiamine) causes neurological problems - broadly speaking - in humans. There are other B vitamins too though.
Do you have any other info or concerns on this?

I had a dog in my kennels once that had a B12 deficiency but the only symptoms I remember him having was that he couldn't maintain his body weight.

Sorry I can't be much help!

    Thanks folks.

The symptoms are mild weight gain despite significantly reducing rations, lacking in stamina and symmetrical hair loss on flanks. The dog has had a past history of Vit B deficiency, which was rectified with injections, but as the vet records are lost, I don't know any more than that (not my dog). Off to the vet tomorrow, to see if we can find out more.

Under-active thyroid problem? Ask your vet about that if it hasn't been explored yet as a possibility.

Hope you get to the bottom of it :)

    Hmm....
Speaking purely in human terms (in the absence of Lochan!) I would think more of a thyroid problem.
I think some of the Vit Bs particularly B12 could be caused by worms, but I wouldn't think weight gain would be an issue unless it was bloating from worms :-\
If B12 deficiency or thyroid problem is the issue then I would be surprised if just one injection would cure the problem, rather ongoing treatment.
    Sorry....not much help.
I guess the vet, and blood tests, will get things sorted tomorrow. Hope so anyway.

(Ha Ha Rachael just pipped me to the post on the thyroid ;D )

I wish I could help, but am clueless.

Sending the warmest wishes you get to the bottom of it - let us know what the vet says.

I was wondering about an Underactive Thyroid too....And Cushings (really hoping it's not Cushings). Fingers crossed it's something easy to put right, as this little lady is a Guide Dog who is much needed and loved by her Mum (and me, her Puppy Walker).

Thanks for your good wishes X

    Re: Vitamin B deficiency

Just to let you know, after a good chat with the vet yesterday, he seemed to think it was more likely to be an underactive thyroid, so took bloods and sent them off for testing for that. If that comes back normal, then he'll take more bloods and see what her Vit B is like, but with all her symptoms, it seems much more likely to be her thyroid malfunctioning. Fingers crossed it is just that, as I know that can be fairly easy to remedy.

    Thanks for the update :)

A friend of mine has a Labrador with an under active thyroid and he is now doing really well on his medication.
