If you're feeding a high quality dog food, are vitamins really necessary?

Personally I don't think so. I do wonder about the potential to do harm though if too many vitamins/supplements are given.

Another "no" from me. Though I did supplement creaky Scooby's food with Glucosomine & Chondroitin - at the vet's suggestion, and Omega 3 fish oil - this cured his dandruff - but he'd come to us from a vegan diet! - I think that did for his coat.

When I worked at the vet, we had a pup of about 8 months brought in, had been fed a vegan diet, poor thing died.

that's awful Stacia. The family we got Scooby from firmly believe they can feed their dogs vegan too. They do have a lot of old rescue dogs, the local vet AND the ManxSPCA keep them in mind for homing old waifs. Their dogs survive. It's totally wrong in my mind.

Dogs are, to my mind, natural meat eaters, and therefore need that in their diet to be fit and healthy - being a veggie myself I would not expect either my OH or my dog not to eat meat, so I adapt my thinking for them. I make sure my puppy has all the nutrition he needs to grow healthy and strong, and believe so long as he is getting everything he needs in his food there is no need for additional vitamins.

I agree with everyone else. If a kibble is being fed no additional vitamins should be added.
