I've been giving Jax wainwrights tray food since we got him. The guideline on back of tray states 4-5 trays a day. I did think this was excessive but did query it with 3 members of staff all from different stores who all said that's right. It also states that as Jax gets older he will need less trays- so at 1 yr old he will need 2 trays a day. Again the staff said it was right n he doesn't need as much as he gets older as he's done all his growing as a puppy. Jax eats about 1 n half to 2 trays a day- anymore than that n he'll leave it. He's been weighed and the vet said he's on the large size- so no worries with his weight. Well hubby went to buy more food and came back with tins and sachets of wainwrights. The guidelines on both if this state less now n more as he gets older. They also state nowhere near the amount the trays do. I thought maybe the trays contained more water hence needing more? Well after debating it with hubby I rang head office who told me that the guideline are probably wrong and Jax should be on about 2 trays a day and at 12 months about 4 trays a day. She said it was probably a printing error. Thing is neither head office or staff at 3 stores seem that interested- even when I said that had I followed their advice Jax would have been severely over fed but also how many other puppies had this affected. Has anyone used wainwrights tray food- what do u think- is the guide wrong? I've researched the amount Jax should be on and as I say he's completely fine and I've since been giving him tinned wainwrights.
Re: Wainwrights puppy tray food. I think it is super annoying the firm gave out the wrong guidelines for the food - I can get a bit on my soap box about how the pet food manufacturers don't make it easy to work out how much to feed (particularly when it comes to treats). I'd be tempted to write a pretty stroppy letter (I'm always tempted to write pretty stroppy letters though, I do that a lot :). It does seem to be the case that food guidelines (at least on all puppy food that I've looked at) show increasing food volumes from 8 weeks to 6 months, then decreasing amounts to about a year.
Re: Wainwrights puppy tray food. Someone said recently that they had spoken to someone at a company or store (really can't remember) and they said that they wouldn't put a feeding guide on at all except they HAD to. Think really the point is that all dogs are different and need different amounts. Just like people. Need to go by the look of the dog - and maybe weight. It really doesn't help with new dog owners and helping to compare food and costs. Energy needs are more during growing months then reduce as dogs get older relatively speaking. Just like human babies. Its not really very scientific I think more a constant monitoring and adjusting. Having a regular measure is good though particularly if more than one person is doing the feeding. We all have different sized hands
Re: Wainwrights puppy tray food. I think you are absolutely justified to complain. Blaming printing errors on something this serious is not acceptable.
