Just wondering how many of our dogs watch television ? Sam does , especially if it involves animals , for some reason he has an aversion to penquins , will growl, get off the sofa and stand right in front of the tv , all the time growling softly , even more daft because in reality, he wouldnt say boo to a goose , pardon the pun : : Millie on the other hand will mainly ignore sights and sounds on the tv, unless its a human baby crying and then she gets upset
Re: Watching television Mine very rarely do, my GSPs would watch animals, but as soon as they were off the screen they lost interest. I would love a TV watching dog.
Re: Watching television Only time Brew has ever shown any interest in the tv was watching Adam on Countryfile. Well, I think she was watching the cattle he was leading around, actually... Clare
Re: Watching television Young Pongo is dozing while I watch the midday news programme. Every time the male newsreader comes on, he wakes up and stares at the screen. This is the first time in his week with us that my husband has been away overnight - I wonder if he's missing him and thinking he is reading the news!
Re: Watching television It's not something Meg has ever done. My brother skypes Dad and I on Mondays and Thursdays and Meg takes one look at screen and takes herself off to the bedroom. When she first saw him, when he first skyyped, she sort of did a double take and her face was like "how the heck did he get in there" and then disappeared. Jen xx
Re: Watching television Very occasionally if there are some animals on screen. There was a police dog barking on TV the other day and that really spooked him. Probably more so as it was coming through on surround sound
Re: Watching television Harley loves watching football (which is good as it's usually on in my house!). She also lives watching other animals on TV, but hates RSPCA rescue programmes. She starts whining at this ;(
Re: Watching television Oh bless Harley..... My two will sometimes seem to watch nature stuff, like the Africa series. That caused a fair bit of interest. There was a programme on Elephant Mice recently and they both sat on the sofa watching intently. Must be something about the close ups in these programmes that gets their attention...Africa had to be watched with the sound off sometimes or cuillin would join in barking ...
Re: Watching television Obi does if there are dogs making dog noises. When we got him at 9 months he didn't know much about indoor life. When he first came across the television he looked at it up close and then behind it to see where the noises were coming from. Was pretty funny. Now he mostly ignores it. I'm sure he finds it ridiculous that we pay it so much attention.
Re: Watching television Penny watches it sometimes - mostly if there are animals on there. I wonder sometimes how much they can actually see on there, is it just the flickering and moving or can they see the actual pictures? This reminds me of an update I had recently from one of my rescue dogs. The poor dog spent most of his young life in kennels - was in rescue from 6 months old to 1 year when he got adopted. He was deaf so no body wanted him Anyway his new mum and dad said he is absolutely petrified of the tv! Poor little man, but apparently he loves to look at himself in the mirror!!
Re: Watching television Lilly came to us at around 11 weeks, and had been kept by the breeded for us, mostly outside in a run, but also some time in the kitchen. When she first came home, she was absolutely transfixed by our TV, couldn't take her eyes of it. Now, she mostly ignores it but is attracted by animal noises of all descriptions, particularly dogs, and the more high-pitched variety.
Re: Watching television Dex will have a peek if it's animal noises or a dog barking but he's not bothered. It goes on evening time as we sit down to eat ( really should sit at the table and converse but we don't :)and that is usually when Dexter commences his epic evening snoozing...so it takes a very interesting tv event to pique his interest.Kay Burley just doesn't seem to cut it ;D
Re: Watching television Riley's not fussed, bit like Dex it usually means it's time to chill as we're eating and relaxing. If someone gets up that's another matter and he springs to attention in a flash!
Re: Watching television Harv ignores the TV most of the time. He really only looks if a sound has caught his attention first. Often, of course, it is something like a dog barking but the other night it was a lady playing a saw as a musical instrument (made quite an eerie sound) - he was transfixed!
