Some of you will think it's too soon since we lost the lovely Scooby only last week, but we both realised very quickly, our home does not feel complete. It took us a long time to become a 2-dog household, fretting about how Belle would react, then circumstances brought Scooby to us, she accepted him in a week or so and we were made. Today we visited the ManxSPCA with a view to adopting. They have lots of staffie-types, but Belle isn't comfortable around them at all. A chocolate lab called Bourbon had just gone to a new home & and a GSD/Lab cross called Coco had gone this very day too. So today wasn't meant to be, but we're both comfortable & relieved to have made the first step. No-one will ever replace Scooby, we know that, but we can make our home complete again.
I think that sounds like a wonderful idea. You know what works for your family and you are willing to give another dog a home just like you did for Scooby. Good luck to you in finding your new family member
Ah everyone is different and whatever feels right is what is right for you.Scooby went too soon ,far too soon but it looks like that means another dog in need is going to find a wonderful home and new family.....best of luck with your search xxx
If you have space in your family for another dog in need, then what could be nicer? How could any dog ever be a "replacement" for another? We all know that's just not the way it works.
I wanted to suggest you had another dog after the sad death of Scooby, but didn't like to; it does help with the feelings of grief. Of course we never forget the beloved dog and they will always be in our hearts forever. As someone once said, I am just making another space in my heart.
Absolutely! Have you thought of contacting BlackRetrieverX? They are very good at matching dogs to hoomans
There's lots of Labrador rescues around the country too. Good luck with your search. Oh and there's also guide dogs that turn out not to be suitable.
There's no right or wrong timing, and no such thing as 'too soon' if it's what you want to do. Enjoy the process of finding the new member of your family
Good luck. I support East Midlands Labrador Rescue and can highly recommend them as well as Black Retriever X.
This is a great idea! Hope you find the right one....he/she will be a lucky dog to be going into your home.
Awww, good luck to you! Some members of this forum are helping to fund a labrador (Blake) who is being rescued from a pound in Cyprus - we are all big advocates of rescue dogs. Good luck!
I wouldn't worry about timing, you know what's best for you and your family. Best of luck with your search
Good luck in your search, when you have found another dog they will be so lucky to have you. Regarding the too soon business only you know the answer and if anyone condemns you for it they are not worthy of a reply. The same as if someone says you are replacing Scooby, speaking from experience as others had said you never replace a dog they always have a special place in our heart. It was the anniversary of our black lab Harvey's death 4 weeks ago. I went to scatter rose petals on his grave, the wind blew them and Mabel gave chase. I gave a little chuckle rather than tears, he'd have loved her and joined in. The sadness is always there it just mellows and changes over time. The anger goes too. It is raw for a long time let the emotions flow, be kind to yourself. I really look forward to photos of your new dog. X
Thanks for all your lovely words of support. Tomorrow we are going to meet Coco, the GSD/Lab cross - he went out on trial on Sunday and was returned for some reason. OH just emailed them on-spec & found he is still available. Trying not to be tooooo excited.
Good luck for tomorrow . I think you are a lovely family to want to rescue dogs and give them a loving home
