Am curious to see what others here have with the three main colors. I am aware there is "silver" lab. Let's keep it simple - yellow, black, or chocolate.
Re: What color lab do you have? (purebred only) Sadly it seems I can't vote twice, even though I have two different colours!
Re: What color lab do you have? (purebred only) One black (Tatze) - the yellow (Gypsy) is a GR X Lab cross (and she is only with me for a year) you can see from her tail that she's not purebred, but otherwise she looks and behaves pure lab!
Re: What color lab do you have? (purebred only) I have a red fox lab - which technically falls under the colour yellow
Re: What color lab do you have? (purebred only) Holly is Yellow, my previous Lab (Cocoa) was chocolate, and my first Lab (Tammy) was black.
Re: What color lab do you have? (purebred only) Every morning Sara starts out as a yellow. Then the lower half and the muzzle "mysteriously" turn quite dark.
We have a very handsome chocolate lab we called him Rolo obviously, but it was a toss up between that and Cocoa. I am quite surprised to see how few chocolate labs people have.

Elsie is yellow which looking sensibly is better for us anyway as we have blonde furniture from years of golden retriever owning.
Re: What color lab do you have? (purebred only) We have two labs, one black and one chocolate I think historically more blacks are bred, originally the chocolate colour was deemed a mutation. The stats are somewhere in the region of 80-90% working labradors are black, with some interest now in the red labs for working, so I guess that is why the figures lean towards black labs. I wouldn't be surprised to see these figures change over the next decade as the popularity of chocolate rises and more breeders mix working/show lines together

Are you saying a lighter shade of chocolate? I've seen yellow labs and some that are very light yellow like white. My black lab has a white spot on her chest. I love the white spot.
Red in Labradors is a darker shade of yellow - not related to chocolate at all Yellow ranges from almost white to a darker red, like Naya's girl. They are all yellow, technically, but obviously there are a range of genes that modify the expression and distrubution of red pigment in yellow dogs, leading to the great variety seen.
Re: What color lab do you have? (purebred only) I see quite a few chocolates locally not all very nice dogs, I think someone must be breeding rather bad tempered choccie labs which is a shame. Only know one other yellow and loads of blacks. Also many lab/staffie crosses who are quite attractive but very unpredictable.

Nuts, stupid and full of energy yes, but bad tempered never!. As you say maybe a local breeder is doing something or their owners need a bit of guidance. I've had 3 of them and all including the current 9 month old have been kind gentle souls, who wouldn't hurt a thing. Makes me a bit sad to read that. Jan

I know several people that have yellow ones, I'm glad to see black and chocolate though. I love 'em all. I've been interested in the two different body types - english and american style. I'll save that for a different thread though. Mine is definitely American.
