I was curious to know what Charlie's name means and guess what you won't believe it you won't I promise? "FREE MAN" talk about a fitting name, I can't believe it : ;D What does you dog's name mean? xxx
Re: What does your dogs name mean? Well, so glad you asked actually, as we deliberated long and hard before settling on Merla, which is Catalan for 'blackbird', a bit like the French 'Merle'. Suits her beautifully we think: What I never anticipated is people mis-hearing me, and referring to her as Merlot! I think I'll get a yellow lab and call her Chardonnay!!!
Re: What does your dogs name mean? just looked jasper up, answer i got was bringer of treasure he is my lil treasure
Re: What does your dogs name mean? What an ace idea for a thread! The DivaDog - - was called Roxy by the 'travellers' who briefly owned her and who we bought her from. We felt it had no good connotations for her but wanted something similar sounding. How it became such a long name is just a MadMudMobby thing I do. Ironically when I traced her first owner they had called her Gypsy
Re: What does your dogs name mean? Well, Charlie means Charlie as Helen's Charlie. His KC name is "[breeders name] Tintagel". For our international friends, Tintagel is a castle in Cornwall - picture here: http://www.tintagelcastle.co.uk/section304246.html We spent a "romantic" January day, in the snow, driving to Tintagel in an open top Morgan, and the name of the sleeper train engine that takes us from Cornwall (Penzance to Paddington) to London on Sunday night is Tintagel Castle (or Restormal, or Pendennis or Totnes, but more often Tintagel).

Re: What does your dogs name mean?
Ah, oh, that's not good but I'll bet the engine sounded wonderful
Amazing!
Re: What does your dogs name mean? Obi is really called Oberon (though he doesn't get called that) after the Fairy King in A Midsummer Night's Dream. Obi's registered name is Jarkk Knight to Dream, so that's why we chose a name from that play. I vetoed Puck and Bottom.
Re: What does your dogs name mean?
I vetoed Puck and Bottom.
Good call Rachael ;D Lilly is the English variant of Lily - From the name of the flower, a symbol of purity. The word is ultimately derived from the Latin lilium. Pure as the driven snow. Only black ;D
Re: What does your dogs name mean? Phillip means "lover of horses." The horses up the road are already traumatized by my dobe, so we're not going to find out.
Re: What does your dogs name mean? Rourke = Famous ruler. Fortunately he is mostly an obedient dog and makes no attempt to rule me
Re: What does your dogs name mean? Simba means "lion" in Swahili. His original owner was a lovely young lady from Africa, so perhaps that is why she chose it. Probably also fit his yellow/amber eyes, too. It's not the name I would have picked at all. When we realized our "puppy sitting" was going to turn into ownership, my daughter and I advocated for changing his name, but hubby thought the dog had enough to cope with so vetoed it. The name I would have given him is Toby, short for Toblerone (being he is a CHOCOLATE lab). Oh well. Simba it is, now.... :
Re: What does your dogs name mean? Personally, I think you were right to suggest changing his name, Lisa. When you rehome a dog you don't know what kind of associations they have with their old name. When we got Obi we renamed him asap (his original name was Duke). In his case, his original family were lovely, and I'm sure had never linked the name Duke to anything bad, but we kinda wanted to make him ours too After all, to a dog a name is not really part of their identity in a way that a name is for us. It's kind of a cue word that refers to them and alerts them to the need to pay attention.
Re: What does your dogs name mean? We choose Amy because it was my eldest sons suggestion and he finds making desisions very very difficult, so we stuck with it to give him confidence.
Re: What does your dogs name mean? We chose "Holly" because she was our Christmas present to ourselves. Also, her puppy teeth were as sharp ah Holly leaves!
Re: What does your dogs name mean? If you google Dexter there are quite a few references to it coming from a surname of someone who dyes....as in the fabric,I assume! It also mentions right handed....he's asleep now,I'll check when he gets up if he's right pawed ;D...essentially,if I'm honest he was named after the American TV series serial killer ;D ;D ;D....well it brought the name to my attention and we liked it.Chris didn't care what he was called,he was so excited that I'd finally agreed to having a dog but I did suggest Jasper too..just to give a choice and get away from the seriel killer association ;D I must admit when we had the blood spatters up the walls and on the top kitchen cupboards from his tail I mused more than once that Dexter's name was appropriate.....the character in the series is a blood spatter analyst when he's not busy chopping people up and throwing them overboard ;D! X
Re: What does your dogs name mean? Benson after George Benson, the American Jazz singer and not the cigarette Benson & Hedges! Roger
