Hello everyone I feel a little guilty that I often only post here when Boston is poorly but I do read the forum as much as I get time! Boston is on his second bout of sickness in a week and any thoughts would be welcome. Last Friday morning he woke up early having been sick. Nothing obvious in the sick but it smelt bad. I managed to get him out of his crate before he ate it back up and then starved him that day. Next day he was given a small portion of breakfast but sicked it up with an hour so another 24 hours starvation. All this time he was totally fine within himself still wanting to play etc. The next lunchtime he had chicken and rice and was fine. Monday chicken and rice with a little kibble added for breakfast and dinner. All good. Yesterday back to kibble and fine all day.this morning woke me up at 6 having been sick again. But ate most of It before I got to him. Then Was sick again at 7.45. I guess a trip to the vets is in order but I know they will tell me to starve him and see how it goes! I have found some branches in the garden from our neighbours bush which I'm wondering if he has chewed without me noticing. I will post a pic of the bush as I don't know what it is. So frustrating when you can't pin down the cause!
Re: what has he eaten now? Awwww, poor poorly pooch I would take him to the vet, it may not be something he's eaten at all. It may be a tummy bug or giardia. The smelly breath is often a sign of a tummy bug. Hope he's better soon xx
Re: what has he eaten now? Yes, repeated vomiting warrants a vet visit. Sorry he's not well but I hope it's all resolved soon.
Re: what has he eaten now? Boston went to the vets, his temperature is 39.1 so borderline high, the vet didn't seem to think it would be the tree he's been chewing. No obvious blockage, no tummy soreness etc so that's good. He's got a probiotic and zantac. Where do you guys normally source probiotics from, if this works I'll be interested to get some for future tummy upsets. Chicken and rice for a few days again and see how we go. The garden is empty, no branches/leaves, we live in military accommodation so there is nothing growing on our side of the fence anyway. Hopefully will keep him out of mischief... Thanks for the messages x
Re: what has he eaten now? Ah glad you've got him checked out. I don't live In the UK but I've bought prokolin from Amazon and got visitors to bring it over for me.....our vet let me pop in without Dexter last week and buy for an upset tummy when I exactly knew the cause but told me to bring him in if he wasn't improved after the 3 doses x
Re: what has he eaten now? Protexin bio premium is a pro and pre biotic supplement that can be given daily. I used it on my old lab but scout wasn't keen on powder on his food so I now use Lintbells Yumpro bio active which is basically the same but tablets. My two eat them fine in their food and will actually eat them from my hand so must taste ok. Both can be bought on Amazon I get mine from www.vetuk.co.uk Pro kolin is anti diarrhoea paste with pro and pre biotic but it can also settle an upset stomach if vomiting.
Re: what has he eaten now? Simple Pro-biotic yogurt is what we use for upset tums, if it is good enough for us
Re: what has he eaten now?
Simple Pro-biotic yogurt is what we use for upset tums, if it is good enough for us
It can work, but a lot of dogs can't process dairy food - neither of mine can. We use pro-fibre http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00BEXP5MA/ref=sr_ph?ie=UTF8&qid=1423063620&sr=1&keywords=pro+fibre
Re: what has he eaten now?
It can work, but a lot of dogs can't process dairy food - neither of mine can.
Is that just because of the lactose, though? I know dogs are lactose intolerant, but most yoghurts are very low in lactose compared to milk, regular cheese etc.
Re: what has he eaten now? Poor Boston...hope you sort it out soon. I'm in the US and I use either Purina's Forti Flora...or Thorne Medical's Gastriplex. I prefer the Gastriplex as it has multiple pre and probiotics, plus a few herbals for soothing and healing the linings....can be given short or long term. It's what I've got my Bella on now...good stuff. It comes in a capsule, and I open the capsules and sprinkle on her food, tossing the empty capsules in too, and her meals are served wet. With a past dog with colitis, we used Gastriplex too for months on end, and she quickly figured out that these pills helped her, and when she heard the bottle rattle, she would come and sit and beg for one. ;D ;D You can get either product through Amazon.
