Well whilst hubby is laid up with his broken leg, I am doing the late night doggy duties. I do normally go to bed early, being an early riser, and hubby who like to stay up a bit later would take the pupsters out for a late night wee, bedtime biscuit and get them settled.

I absolutely have to go to bed by 10pm...10.30pm at the latest. Hubby didn't take them out until about 11pm or 11.30pm. I am taking them out for their late wee now at 10pm, and letting them out in the morning at 6.30am, or a bit earlier. I am an early riser any way these days, being up early to check the birds, let the dogs out..breakfasts etc. and get myself off to work. Hubby did take the dogs out for their morning walk, which I am now doing, with help from my stepdad.

I was wondering if this a bit too long to leave them overnight?

Seems similar to my two. I'm even earlier to bed, normally in bed by 9.30 so its bedtime wees around 9. I get up about 5am, neither of them are bursting for a wee, they have their morning carrot and a game of facey bite bite normally before we head out for walks and first wees of the day are at around 5.30-5,45...

i would think that it's fine for adult dogs. Juno goes to bed anytime from around 10:45 to 11:15 and is fine to around 8:15 to 8:30 when I'm here by myself - if OH is here it's more like 7:45 to 8:00. That's been our routine since puppyhood and the end of pees during the night although she used to be up a little earlier (or was that OH getting her up ). My cats usually start appearing around 10:30 to remind me it's close to bedtime :D:D

our (adult) dogs usually go to bed at 10pm and get up at 7:30 (weekdays) or 8:00-8:30 weekends. Rarely is either of them desperate for a wee - both will drink during the night.

I am in bed at 10pm every evening and put my dogs (and pups) to bed at the same time. I get up at 7:30am and I always wake them, not the other way round.

Twiglet is in a puppy pen and I put a puppy pad in there for night times, she has just done one wee a night on there and I am sure this will soon stop when her bladder gets bigger. (I decided I am too old for crate training and getting up in the night!) :)

My dogs go to bed between 10-10.30 and I go down to them in the morning around 7pm. Sometimes these times change but makes mo difference to them.

Sounds like the same routine as Pongo's! I take him out for late night stroll-sniff round garden after the news at 10.30pm, then bedtime biscuit and straight to bed; Paul gets up about 6.30am and takes him for early morning check-that-the-garden-is-still-there walk at about 7.00am.

Pongo sends BIG licks to Marcuswiththesardinecakefavouritehuman and wonders how on earth he broke his leg????

10:00 - 10:30 bed here and then up as late as 8:00 at the weekends if we can persuade Lizzie she doesn't need to go down and let the doggies out....woe betide me if I let Obi out of his crate before she's had a chance to, it's her job!

Charlie starts nagging for his "strollies" round the block at 9.18pm and goes out at 9.30pm. He usually puts himself to bed by 10pm, we stay up until about 11pm. He goes out for his first walk the next day at 7.30am, and we have to tip his bed up to move him....

Mine go during their afternoon walk at about 5pm and don't go again until about 11.30 am; they could go if they wanted as they have a dog door!

Harley usually has her last wee around 9.30/10pm. She comes to bed with us around 11-11.30pm. Weekdays we are up around 7-7.30am - she has a wee, breakfast then goes back to sleep until around 11am! weekends around 10/11am unless we have something planned. I think she is lazy

Sounds like we have similar routine here, Charlie is down for the count around 8pm, last pee at 10pm and biscuit and bed until 830am. Not much of an emergency to pee in morning either. He is 9 months now, and has had the routine since coming home to us.

Well that is reassuring! I was a bit worried about whether I was letting them both out earlier enough considering how early I go to bed compared to the humanthatgivesPongosalmoncake! :) Not that they complain at all....usually have to prise Casper out of bed in the mornings anyway :)
Poor hubby broke his leg on the way to agility with Benson, he took the short cut across the fields, didn't get very far sadly...he slipped and alll his weight twisted onto his leg. He is OK, a nice stable fracture, just very painful with a fair bit of soft tissue soreness.

:( Benson is OK as the wonderful Anna (who takes the agility classes..) is running Benson for us, and Benson ADORES Anna :)

Poor Benson's dad...hope it heals up soon, and there is not too much work for you single handed in the meantime.

    Morning
my dogs go to bed at about 10.30 to 11.00 and then I'm up about 4.30 to 5.00am. My oldest dog (doug) is14 and he still manages through the night well.
I'm the one who wakes I dont sleep much at night and have to be at work early. They have their breakfasts at 5pm then have a nap. I don't walk early in the day but do a long walk about 1pm then another at about 7pm. All my dogs due to their ages have different exercise needs so I often have to do 3 separate walks to suit each dog. I start walking at 1pm and sometimes finish at 4pm depending on who can do what today.
The evening walk is easier as I can take 2 out together as its only a short walk. Doug only goes out once a day he cant manage any more.
Its not a very traditional way of doing things but the dogs like it.
They all seem very happy with this and are very chilled contented dogs'but they like it best when I dont sleep and am up all night. They get to lie on the sofa all night instead of their beds they love that.
The only time I get woken in the night is if somethings wrong like "brown Tide" or the hedgehogs are having noisy rumpy pumpy in the garden. They are so loud!

Mabel goes out at 8 o'clock snoozes on the sofa then takes herself off to bed at 10 on the dot. She then gets up at 7.50. She's not in a hurry to go outside though. If she has to get up any earlier she's not happy and will return to her crate.

Sorry to hear about the leg, as a recent breakee I can emphasise; it can happen so easily. When it happens it has a huge effect on your life for a while. I'm off to the fracture clinic on Friday, so starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Hope he manages some movement soon.
