About an hour and a half from where I live in south east Cornwall is the lovely Seal Sanctuary at Gweek . We are going to take my daughter and six year old Silas , he loves seals and due to the recent storms , there are lots of young pups there at the moment, lost from their Mothers . When I looked on the website, it said that dogs are welcome ( on leads only ) and am just wondering what our two would be like ? If we dont take them with us , they will have to be left at home all day, which I`m not keen on doing , I guess if either of them react to the seals , I can always walk them away to a seal free zone : :
Re: What would you do ? If it was Riley I would leave him at home. He's not very relaxing on lead in these sort of places and it detracts from my time with Lizzie. I would get someone to pop in a couple of times in the day. I don't like leaving him but he gets a lot of love and attention most of the time and he seems to survive these odd occasions unscathed. However if I owned the beautiful Sam I may have a completely different view! He's so much more chilled ;D How accessible are seals? If they're mostly tucked in enclosures the dogs may not pay them much mind....
Re: What would you do ? Dogs are welcome - you have two well-behaved dogs and two adults - what's the question again???
Re: What would you do ? They are all in enclosures , thats one good thing Sam is a chilled lad but even so , if he senses get heightened too much , he might lose the plot , Millie, well , heaven knows : :
Re: What would you do ? I'm amazed that dogs are allowed. Wow. If you think the dogs will be manageable and it'll still be relaxing for you then go for it. You can do some proofing to prepare for the possibility of seal incursions into your backyard Is it kind of a rehabilitation centre, rather than a wild seal colony? What kind of seals are they?
Re: What would you do ? I had a quick look at their website and it looks like a busy tourist attraction. I personally wouldn't take my dogs. They are not used to those sort of environments and would be far happier at home. It looks as if there are also swans, geese and ducks, don't know how Sam and Millie are around those but something to bear in mind.
Re: What would you do ? I love the seal sanctuary at Gweek! Love it. Love Gweek too. Take Charlie? (* hysterical laughter * ). But your two are much more sensible. One day I hope to even be able to consider it!
Re: What would you do ? Ducks and Geese Maybe not then It wont be too busy at the moment , we were considering going tomorrow, but on reflection , even laid back Sam might find it all too much Rachael, its a rehab type of place , we went many moons ago when it was quite a small venture , they have a hospital too , common and grey seals, often injured ones , they do some great work x
Re: What would you do ? Well I deffinately wouldn't take Scott and scout that would just be a complete nightmare and a very stupid thing to do. However I would have taken Murphy. I didn't think twice about taking Murphy anywhere. I just took him and I think because of that he was quite comfortable in most situations. Also unlike Scott and scout even if Murphy wasn't happy he didn't make a big fuss. We used to take him upto Scotland on holiday twice a year so he did the tourist spots and the towns. Although we didn't do that much tourist stuff we'd been going to the same place in scotland near enough all my life. From what you've said about Sam Kate he reminds me a lot of Murphy a big softy. If you think they will be better with you than home all day take them. At worst they might have to go in the car if they really don't like it but I bet there'll be walks and things around you can do with them even if they have to wait in the car while you look at the seals. Have a lovely time whatever you decide Jen
Re: What would you do ? Decision made, we are taking them For a terrier type , Millie isnt yappy , takes most things in her stride , might pull a bit on her lead but I cant see her being a real problem . Sam ignores cows , sheep etc. so hopefully this will apply to seals we shall soon find out I rang the sanctuary , they said that there were quieter areas where there wouldnt be any stimulants , so if necessary , I can remove them from the animal area and calm them down , but its a picnic area so they may not be so calm The trip is for little Silas really as he doesnt get to go right away from home that often, so as long as he has a great time, thats all that matters . We`ve had a week of fabulous weather here but sods law, its foggy today so if its the same in the morning we will put the visit on hold for a week or two
Re: What would you do ? Have a wonderful time with your family Kate, I wish I could go see the Seals xxx
Re: What would you do ? I hope Silas has a wonderful day no doubt it will be even better with his good buddy Sam along xxx
Re: What would you do ? Thank you , just watching the weather tonight first, not much point going to see the seals if we cant see them
Re: What would you do ?
I love the seal sanctuary at Gweek! Love it. Love Gweek too. Take Charlie? (* hysterical laughter * ). But your two are much more sensible. One day I hope to even be able to consider it!
;D ;D ;D I remember visiting there too. Must have been when I was in my 'teens. Such an appropriate name for a seal sanctuary I always thought.
Re: What would you do ? Have a poorly husband this morning, so the visit to Gweek is on hold until Easter , disappointed and relieved all rolled into one
Re: What would you do ? So sorry to hear OH is poorly, hope he picks up soon. I reckon Sam and Millie would be fine. Charlie would just go nuts at the new excitement, and it would be a bit exhausting, but I reckon even he would settle down eventually.
