just wondering when they reach adult size /weight,.....jasper was weighed on sat, he is a whopping 30 killo,....he is 7 month old
Re: when do they reach adult size / weight ? I thought around 18 months but not sure if thats size/weight or if its more behaviour. Hmm..
Re: when do they reach adult size / weight ? he as been weighed monthly by the vet from being 9 week old, she did estimate is weight from that age. he is a big boy
Re: when do they reach adult size / weight ? Well, Obi has not grown any taller since we got him at 9 months. He is 56cm high at the shoulder. But in the last few months (he is now 16 months) he has grown 'sideways' and has muscled up a bit. He was 23kg at 9 months and is now just over 25kg at 16 months. How tall is Jasper at the shoulder in cm? I'd say that he is not finished yet at 7 months. More to cuddle, Lynne
Re: when do they reach adult size / weight ? i think when i measured him last week he was 21 inch , oh my word , kate as said from his first photo he was going to be a big boy like sam
Re: when do they reach adult size / weight ? So he is about 53cm at the moment. I don't know what the Labrador breed standard gives as a guide in the UK but here it is 56-57 cm for males. Ok, here is the UK standard (same as here Size Ideal height at withers [aka shoulders]: dogs: 56 - 57 cms (22 - 22 1/2 ins); bitches: 55 - 56 cms (21 1/2 - 22 ins). So he might well not end up bigger than the standard...
Re: when do they reach adult size / weight ? he don't look like a puppy ???at the first visit to the vets she estimated he was going to be between 36/38 kilo,.....she never mentioned his height ....when we go friday i will ask her to do his height and weight i will pop a photo on today
Re: when do they reach adult size / weight ? If its any comfort Lynne, Sam slowed right down, in weight and height when he got to about 10 months old, he did put more weight on but very slowly and didnt really grow height wise very much more . He is now over the height standard but not by as much as I feared he might be at one time !

Re: when do they reach adult size / weight ? Oh my, I'm having another "is Charlie too fat" crisis with this thread and our walk this morning - he was playing today with a yellow lab puppy exactly the same age as him (she was a lovely girl, and they had a ball, running and rolling about) - she looked so thin against him, or he looked so fat. I can see a waist, his tum goes up at the back when looking at the side, but he has so much more "flesh" on him - handfuls of it... He is now 22kg at 5 months.... I'll have to post some pics for you all to have a look... he is definitely having a podgy week. Haven't increased his kibble since the 4 month amount...
Re: when do they reach adult size / weight ? they all differ in size, jasper was 25 at 5 month , 28 at 6 month and 30 at 7 month........the vet did warn me he would be a big boy......i put before and after pics on yesterday ....please please please photos
Re: when do they reach adult size / weight ? Lynne is exactly right Julie....and so was Rachael when she said they are all different shapes and sizes just like people so its really hard to judge.....Dexter was playing with a chocolate lab the other day who was 3.... The owner said that she was pure working line bred.......she was a little tubby one and looked like a totally different breed never mind a different dog!charlie always looks like a lovely, show labrador puppy to me with a beautiful, gleaming coat.....go on how he looks to you rather than making comparisons with height and weight of other dogs.Dexter podges up and slims down ......I find it hard to judge how much kibble to reduce if hes getting a lot of chicken for training and hes getting A LOT of chicken at the moment as we are training total recall. also, you know im totally lacking in experience but I think it's important to watch that they aren't putting weight on quickly as that can bring on problems later.you probably haven't been out and about as much either because of the hot weather so maybe he's just having a 'fat' day ;D his runs out on the common will soon fettle that
Re: when do they reach adult size / weight ? your right angela,......jasper is estimated to be 38 kilo , the vet as never said that he is to heavy at this stage but would not want him to go over 38,.......he is a big boy, if looks are any thing to go by, my son always says he is the nicest looking dog he as ever seen,......oh forgot to mention there is a fun day at the guide dog unit,.......judging guide dogs and none guide dogs,.....one of the comps is the nicest looking dog, mmmmmmm shall we enter ?
Re: when do they reach adult size / weight ? It's not just the weight in itself though...or the way he looks (in terms of tum and waist) - the difference with Charlie and much lighter labradors is Charlie has what I can only describe as "puppy fat" - it's like rolls of flesh and skin that I can literally grab hold of on his back and sides. He has always had this, from day one. It just makes him look like he has to grow into it all - but it seems to be growing with him! When I pat much lighter labradors, even the same age as Charlie, they feel so much harder. Makes him great to cuddle though! I'm whittering again, and probably not making much sense!
Re: when do they reach adult size / weight ? it makes sence to me julie, jasper as always been like that, he as just stated to grow into his body
Re: when do they reach adult size / weight ? It's official! The vet said he was a right old podge and he is to go on half rations immediately! (well, that's what I told Charlie she said - she actually said he was probably towards the top end of ok, but cut his kibble by 25% for a couple of weeks as a bit thiner would be a good thing). I like this vet so much better than the one who said it was difficult to over feed labrador puppies... And the ear infection is back - return to the whole antibiotics and daily washing routine...sigh...at least he is used to having things in his ears now.
