our new labrador arrives tomorrow. she is 7, will be 8 in august. i'm not happy with the food she is currently on so will be changing it out with arden grange, gradually of course. i ordered some senior formula, but is she too young for it? how do you tell? is it just age that you go by or is it activity level?

I think most senior brands recommend age 7 or over but I guess it depends on the breed of the dog - larger breeds mature quicker so would be classed as 'senior' sooner than a smaller dog. I would have thought 7-8 is ok.

Yes, she will be about the right age for senior food , I think Labs are classed as seniors at this age, although they might not think they are ;)

I didn't put Holly on Senior until she was 12 years old. She was happy and healthy on her James Wellbeloved and I thought 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'.

I think I remember Lochan saying that Labradors and some other breeds are not classed as senior until 9 years old ::)

My vet said that our old Lab was 'a geriatric' at 9.... (He didn't look or act it...). Anytime from now would probably be fine...

When I read the title of your thread I read it as "when do you start FEELING senior?" And I thought "oh, about 10 years ago....." ::) ;D

she's not a working dog and it says that when they hit the age that they become less active . . . . :-\

i may order another type and mix it... lol. btw - pets at home has a really good deal on arden grange dry - two 12 kg bags at a savings of £19 plus free delivery. in fact, i think they have that same deal on other dry food brands as well.

Hi, I think www.zooplus.co.uk sells 2 x 12kg bags for about £55.00. I think Pets at Home is generally much more expensive for dog food. Might be worth googling for good
    deals. :)x

Good luck for tomorrow. I'm sure she won't mind what you feed her. ;)
