Apologies i know there has been lots of talk on this topic. I was intending on waiting until Murphy is a year old before getting him done so that he should be more or less fully grown and developed by then but in the last couple of weeks has become ridiculously humpy to other dogs and is also marking a lot more and cocking his leg(!). He is now 9 months so not long to wait, but my sister works in a vets and she reckons that if I wait and he keeps humping, then the behaviour will become ingrained in him and even once hes done he will still hump loads. Has anyone heard this before? Also on a tuesday he spends the day at my dog walkers house who has a 7 month lab bitch, so it is a little worrying that she may come into season without my dog walker realising, which is another reason that I am considering doing it soon.

Any thoughts anyone? Its such a hard decision!

    Thanks :) x

I heard the opposite - a reasonably looking study, showed no impact on undesirable behaviours from waiting to castrate. That is, the same reduction in undesirable behaviour is experienced from both earlier and later castration - that is not to say that castration always reduces the undesirable behaviour, far from it (but if it doesn't reduce it, that's not because you waited too long). I think I wrote the reference down (hate it when people reference studies but don't provide a reference so I'll try to do so). I'll go see if I can find it now.
