She's only managed one stuffed kong of food from the vet since Wednesday. So it's day 3. She is not interested in food but will have a drink. Vomited again this morning bringing up a tiny bit of froth. Rear end is producing not much either; it's been watery for 2 days. She sleeps a lot. The vet isn't worried as he thinks she's reasonably bright.
I just need it to end! How long can she go without eating?

Oh Jane you will be terribly worried...I can't answer but I'm sure it's the same as us ,as long as she is drinking, food is less important BUT she is only little?when you say the vet isn't worried...have you put a call in today ?if you haven't I would ring them and tell them she was till being sick.....there's obviously a horrible gastro bug around ,Harley has been really poorly too x

Chepi is 5 months or so now isn't she? So she is not a tiny baby, and if your vet isn't worried - and she is drinking - then awful though it is to see them poorly, she will no doubt be fine. But if you are worried, then give the vet a call and ask whether she should be seen again? Even if it just puts your mind at rest, it might be worth it.

Charlie had a dreadful tummy bug at Christmas which lasted about a week. It was awful, and he didn't keep food down properly for about 5 days. He was fine, and very hungry, when it cleared up. I did take him back to the vet and they changed his ABs, which really seemed to help (once he stopped vomiting).

That doesn't sound right to me I would want the vet to be worried and finding the cause. Have you been back to the vet today ? I think I would be asking questions at this point bright or not because some dogs hide their problems and can be very sick indeed before they look ill.

    Aw, Jane.....
I would have a chat to your vet. As much as we can put in our twopence worth, your vet has actually SEEN Chepi.
Don't sit at home worrying, your vet might be able to answer your questions and put your mind at rest a bit

Oh dear I can see why you're worried. At least she's drinking which is the most important thing. Hope she starts to feel better soon.

I watched her all morning, no worse, so I thought I would wait and see if there was any change after lunch before calling the vet (again).
She suddenly perked up around 1.30 and had a kong of vet's special food. Since then she has had big drinks, ran to me in the garden (!) and is looking for food.
I don't want to speak too soon but she looks much brighter and I am much happier!

Oh dear that doesn't sound too good.

I would definitely be on the phone to the vet and be pushing for some answers. If you're not happy with the answers you're getting then you could see a different vet.

Also as she's unwell I wouldn't worry too much about feeding with stuffed kongs - if she's not feeling herself she might not want to put in the effort it takes to eat them.

Glad Chepi is better this afternoon. It is really horrible seeing them so poorly, it makes me feel awful not knowing what to do so I really sympathise with you. If you are worried over the next few days do call the vets and get them to see her. If your not happy, get a second opinion. Fingers crossed she will get better now though. Sending big hugs xxx

Re: When will Chepi get better?

Good morning! Chepi is not fussed about food this morning but I am learning to trust her instincts. She did have food last evening so when she's ready she will eat today. No vomiting overnight, fingers crossed for today. Still had diarrhoea last night but no evidence yet this morning. She's just had a big drink. Slept downstairs with her until about 3 then my number 2 cat came in (he hasn't been indoors for a week since Chepi chased him!), so I left Chepi on the sofa and took the cat to bed for a cuddle. Chepi was OUT of her crate, on her own, for about 3 hours and all was ok went I got up. Phew!
I think I will have to crate her and not sleep downstairs tonight before it becomes a problem!
Have a good day everyone - I am feeling more positive now! 8)

    Have you tried Pro-Fibre Jane?

It's great for firming up the poos, especially after a tummy bug - as it re-balances the gut bacteria. In fact, I put a few sprinkles of it in all Tatze's meals - it's good for her tum like my probiotic drinks are for mine.
