    On tonight's walk Holly's recall was ... well... non existent. She's usually pretty good but tonight she completely ignored me. She ran around with her nose to the ground and paid no attention to me at all. When I eventually caught her she struggled to get way before I could clip the lead. Its as if I took a different dog with me.

    Is this the start of the teenage rebellion?

    Well if it is, it lasts until they are at least 8! My one Lab puts his nose down and that is it, he doesn't disappear, keeps his eye on me, but won't recall. My other one of 2 is a little angel ;D

    oops! Something much better than coming back caught Holly's attention.

    It does take a while to proof the recall, I hate to say it out loud but I'm afraid you just haven't got it embedded properly yet :( no drama though, happens to everyone at some point.

    Not sure what age Holly is but unless she's kennelled and only comes out to work, I wouldn't expect a 100% perfect recall until they were about 2 years old.

    More recall training will eventually get you there.

    You could try getting her to sit (at distance), then recall. I've found that the sit is easier to firmly embed, you've then got her attention, then whistle the recall. As always, one recall command and if she ignores it, plan B or you'll mess up all your good work on the recall.

    Yep. I used to believe that aliens had descended and taken over my sweet children. They may look the same but they are creatures from Hell

    Holly is still very young and is normally so good so don't worry you will just have to do what we all do, make a fool of yourself clapping and squeaking in a high pitched voice whilst running at high speed in the opposite direction to get her attention ;D I'm not so sure ANYONE has a 100% perfect recall working dog or not ;) x

    No idea why my last post came up twice, I'll try and delete one. Nope, failed in that, calling a moderator!!

    [done :) - Julie] {thanks}

    You can get a perfect recall, look at all the FtCh; but for us mere mortals....... :mad:
