Just out of interest , why did you choose a Labrador over any other breed , and if you have another breed, what made you choose that one ? Sam is my 4th Labrador , I just adore the breed traits, have owned other gundog breeds but Labs have my heart, for their happy go lucky personalities , good with children , relatively easy to train and give just the best cuddles
Re: Why did you choose a Labrador ? A male black lab was the only dog my OH would have and I was more than happy to comply. When a colleague came in one Monday morning saying his parents dog had just had puppies I asked what kind of dog........and the rest is history ;D I have a Clumber spaniel now too and I blame Heidrun and Ziggy for that !
Re: Why did you choose a Labrador ? Hubby has always wanted a yellow lab .....I'd been around spaniels for a few years before leaving home when my parents started having dogs so knew I loved dogs but wasn't really bothered about the breed so Chris got his choice x
Re: Why did you choose a Labrador ? My hubby was brought up with a golden retriever x Alsatian and always wanted a 'big dog'. We spent months looking at different breeds. I am allergic to long hair dogs such as Alsatians so we had to be careful. Before we made up our mind we looked after my friends 10 year old black lab for a week - that did it for me
Re: Why did you choose a Labrador ? My two favourite breeds have always been labradors, for their loving natures and border collies, for their keen intelligence. We hadn't planned to have a dog at all, but when I was unexpectedly involved in whelping this litter, we had a good think about it and decided that we couldn't not.
Re: Why did you choose a Labrador ? I have always had rescue dogs. Three Heinz 57, a Jack Russell a Border Collie and my last two were Cavaliers, who lived a happy and healthy 15 years. When I started talking about another dog Mr Boogs said "Yes, but I want it to be a proper dog and I want it to be a puppy." First I had to ascertain what a 'proper dog' was! Turned out a 'proper dog' was a black Lab. So, 18 months ago, the lovely Tatze arrived at 10 weeks old. I enjoyed her puppyhood so much I soon wanted another. But Mr Boogs wasn't so sure - his reservations were financial as we had both recently retired and money is far tighter than it used to be. So I looked into Puppy Walking for Guide dogs and here I am with two gorgeous girls!
Re: Why did you choose a Labrador ? My family had loads of dogs when we were growing up - one stood out over all the rest and he was a Labrador. He wasn't the easiest one to train, he wasn't the best mannered, and he wasn't the easiest to manage - but I think he was the one that loved his people the most.
Re: Why did you choose a Labrador ? My parents have always had at least one lab each so I knew what lovely dogs they are. Personally I have always liked whippets and lurchers but my boyfriend absolutely detests them and wanted something he could take shooting. Agreed on a black lab bitch out of working stock. Both her parents were light build so I'm hoping she will be too - although I'm far too in love with her to care! Also absolutely love GSP's but will see how we get on training Inca before I step up to their level.
Re: Why did you choose a Labrador ? Didn't choose a labrador....we had previously raised two border collies from pups and wanted another one, but my son's girlfriend had a puppy (almost a year) that we agreed to look after for a month....and found out she didn't want him back. So, the rest is history. I would recommend the breed to another person in a heartbeat. I love my pooch's gentle demeanor combined with his sense of fun and dedication to us. You could say I'm a convert...
Re: Why did you choose a Labrador ? My parents got a lab when I was in my teens. Ive always loved walking and found the perfect walking companion in a Lab. They enjoy the walk for its own sake, never criticise your map reading skills, and don't feel obliged to make small talk. We enjoyed many years of walking in the Lake District and Scotland, sponsored walks, and any excuse to get outdoors. Sadly, she died a few days before OH and I met. OH had collies and spaniels, but I introduced her to Labs when we chose our first dog together. During our married life we've had two Labs and a Lab cross, and they've given us a rich set of memories from walks all over the country. I can't imagine life without a Lab.
Re: Why did you choose a Labrador ? It was OH's choice. When our first litter fell through, we considered a yellow, but OH was concerned he might regret not getting the black girl lab of his teenage years. So, black girl it was 8)

Lady is my first Lab and when the time comes she may not be the last.
Re: Why did you choose a Labrador ? I've had all kinds of dogs throughout my life. Great Danes, Red Setters, Boxers, Smooth and rough Collies, lab mixes, and Springer Spaniels as a kid. As an adult, I've had red Heelers (cattle dogs), Anatolian Shephards (livestock gaurdians), our lab-looking mix in Izzy, and now our milk chocolate darling Bella. In our family we talk about having the "dog gene" and how necessary it is to have dogs in our lives. When we lost our sweet Izzy this year, there was no question we wanted a new love, and hubby was intent on getting a lab for a house dog - since that's what Izzy mostly resembled. We found Bella's litter at the perfect time, and she joined our family without hesitation. I think labs are great companions and family/house dogs...and I do so love my Anatolians too... Can't imagine life without a big dog in it!!! ;D
Re: Why did you choose a Labrador ? I had a collie x, then five GSPs over the years, but when training the GSPs I fell in love with retrieving and decided to have Labs, now have two and love them dearly. But still hanker after a GSP but too old to have another dog, it would outlive me which wouldn't be fair.

Re: Why did you choose a Labrador ? I had the world's worst behaved Labrador as a child (not his fault, we didn't know how to train him properly). I loved him very dearly though. We also had Jack Russells and border collies when I was growing up - but the Labs won my heart with their sweet silliness. All my family have the 'dog-gene' - one of my sisters has four dogs at the moment, three rescues and a foster. My mother has two border collies. Other sister has a staffie/lab cross. One niece has a staffie rescue, another a JRT, another two boxer crosses. Now as an adult I have had a lab/spaniel cross, a show-bred Lab, and now my little dummy-obsessed Poppy.
