An unpleasant subject to think about but just wondered if other people find their labs have a lot of wind? Milo seems to have the smelliest trumps I have ever known! He is fed on dry food and just has this in his kongs with a bit of natural yogurt and a small bit of spreading cheese to seal it. My previous dog was a cocker spaniel and he never suffered from wind - luckily!
Re: Wind! Um yes I know exactly what you mean. My old girl who is 14 now had terrible wind, I got some samples from various companies (she went off her normal kibble Arden Grange as well) and meg decided she preferred fish4dogs and since she's been on that it seems to have cleared up. Could be his dry food. I remember when meg was a pup it took us a long time to get her on kibble that suited her. Definitely recommend fish4dogs, her coats a lot shinier, her teeth are perfect. Meg used to suffer from colitis but since she's had fish4dogs that's cleared up.
Re: Wind! Penny used to get terrible gas but since switching her food (funnily enough TO Arden grange) she has been lots better. Now she only gets horrible farts if she had a big meaty bone!
Re: Wind! Murphy has terrible wind sometimes, normally in the evening when he`s laying at my feet!! A little bit (2/3 teaspoons) of natural yoghurt 2 or 3 times a week does seem to help and I`m thinking of going to a partially raw diet to see if I can reduce it further? At present he is on 400g of Skinners per day. Steve.
Re: Wind! No help I know, but Lilly is hilarious as she often does a little parp when she sits down after meals. Squeaky floorboard stuff. ;D
Re: Wind! Harley has bad wind after a pigs ear or similar She quite often does little 'parps' and stares at hubby (if he's home) with a look of disgust ;D ;D
Re: Wind! Penny shocks herself when she farts she'll be lying down and then let one rip and she jumps straight up and runs in a circle looking at her bum!!!
Re: Wind! If Pongo is asleep at one end of the room, then suddenly wakes up and moves to the opposite corner, we know it's time to hold our noses.
Re: Wind! oh dear I am laughing so much !!!!!! Riley does a little parp and then looks at his bum in surprise. My OHs old dog used to give people the hard stare though suggesting he was affronted by their smelliness ;D ;D ;D
Re: Wind! Elsie isn't too bad unless she has broad beans or cauliflower, both of those you could power the car with her emissions. Her problem is hiccups - middle of the night, after her breakfast, middle of the afternoon, like mini earth quakes in the night !
Re: Wind! I'm still laughing. When meg used to have wind it was silent and deadly. She wouldn't even raise her head or move away.
Re: Wind! My cat is awful... He will be fast asleep on your lap and then just get up and run away... Then it hits you...
Re: Wind! This thread is hilarious! Our boy is fed raw food and he hardly farts at all. I know, very un-Labrador! But when he does, they are the sweetest little "parps" you've heard. On the odd occasion when he's climbing the stairs, you will hear a little parp. There have been a few times, however, when the smelliest of smells arises from the floor beside the bed... and he sleeps next to my side of the bed! I've tried to think what he's eaten on the odd days that he has bad smelling farts -- maybe something he'd picked up off the pavement on our walks.
Re: Wind! I've found that bad smells erupting from a dog means some kind of allergy to the food they are eating. When we've experienced this, I've changed foods, and viola! Instant air freshener! So you might want to try a different food, just to see. My previous dog had that reaction to chicken, when I switched him to lamb and rice it was fine. Present pooch did not do well when I tried a new (supposedly better) food which had a mixture of protein sources, I went back to his regular kibble and we were odour free again.
Re: Wind! what a tonic this thread is ;D ;D ;D ;D yes meg had real bad wind to,my house was in constant fart-fog,we changed her food it did help a bit,vet suggested we had some chappie meat to her meals,no more wading through the fog,lol
Re: Wind! I'm the same as MF - raw fed and almost no wind at all, only the very occasional ladylike emission. My old boys (fed on kibble and canned food) both suffered from the nastiest smelly farts you can imagine. I don't know if this is a coincidence, or whether raw food really does cause less wind.
Re: Wind! 2 kibble fed dogs plus a few times a week chicken carcasses, sardines and very little wind at all!!
Re: Wind! Loving the wind stories! ;D Mira sometimes does little parps when she sits down on the tiled floors and always looks round in surprise - very funny, but not usually smelly. If she has eaten some dead animal when out on a walk its a different story - silent but deadly farts are the order of the day, and usually when she is lying on the sofa next to me Yesterday she found a freshly dead rabbit (I think dropped by a buzzard) and had a good go at it before I managed to get it away from her, and this was after she had been eating windfall apples. We really should have shut her in the kitchen while we watched TV last night......
Re: Wind! Lola burps more than she trumps! When she finishes her food she'll come and nudge me to 'say thanks' and usually burps right in my face
Re: Wind!
Lola burps more than she trumps! When she finishes her food she'll come and nudge me to 'say thanks' and usually burps right in my face
Our Snowie does the same -- not often the burps, but if he does, yes, same as your Lola (in your face!) -- with the "thank you" for his meal, too, it is too sweet!
