    Hi All,

My pup has foul smelling wind!! I thought this was because he had a runny tummy but that went a couple of weeks ago and everything has been firm ever since.

He is on Burns puppy food which was recommended by our vet, but is the stink a side effect of the food?

Highly embarrassing when you have guests round for dinner

I think some labs just have smelly bums!! Burns is quite a good food so I wouldn't expect that to be causing the wind problem but you never know.

What treats does he get? I know Penny gets awful wind if she's had a particularly nice bone, pigs ear or a large chew.

I only use bits of the burns food as treats, which I take out of his food allowance.

He does like to chew and eat (when I can't grab it!) bits of bark in the garden, so it could be that but the smell is really vile and strong. :-[

If it's really unusual, I'd have a chat to your vet. Maybe something is up with his tum?

I grew up with quite a lot of dogs - although Charlie is my first dog without my mum being there to sort out all the problems. ::) I sort of think dogs do "bottom burps" the same as everyone else ;D ;D ;D but in a young, healthy dog I wouldn't expect it to be a terrible problem.

Or maybe some dogs are just like that....maybe it's worth trying a different food. Different dogs seem to suit different foods, even of the same quality.

    hi,
i can sympathise with you, when meg was on pets at home waighnrights food she was the same,i even asked familly to not come visit,it was just like a constant fog over the house,we took meg of that food and put her on the arden grange sensitive, which helped her so much,
the vet suggested to me that using some chappie meat in with megs meal,i can honestly say this does help with the wind.

Bouncer dropped one yesterday. I was amazed such a smell could come from such a small animal. He just looked at me with the cute pose & I am sure he was grinning like

Check ingredients in the food ..... some have a lot of "fillers" .... I put mine on Fromm Gold for Puppies and all the awful odors went away. I live in the USA, but I'm sure you can find a kibble that has the first three ingredients as protein and not fillers. Not necessarily grain free but .....
If that doesnt work, maybe keep a log on what treats you give your pup and see which ones produce this foul odor!!! Good luck.

I agree that it is the fillers that can cause wind. Check the ingredients for percentage of things like 'beet pulp'.

Haha thanks everyone, Burns is very high quality food and I only use that for treats. But I keep hearing things about Arden, so I'm going to buy some and very slowly introduce and hope that helps.
He also hasn't put any weight on for over a week so I'm a bit concerned with the food.
Somebody else said that the food mad their pup all gangly and I feel like he's going that way too. He's 13 weeks and weighs 6.5kg. He looks fine but I'm a bit worried.

There's two sorts of Oscar farts. one is a loud one and he look behind him to see what the noise is ! The other is a sneaky gut wrencher where he'll be sitting with us then the green dog descends upon us...and wonders why we both get up and leave him on the settee !!
