Ruby is due to be wormed tomorrow and I'm not going to have chance to go to the vets and pick up tablets so I've just bought some from local pet store. Vets usually give us Milbemax but the ones I have bought today are beaphar. Is that ok? Or do I need to continue to give her Milbemax? Rang vets and they'd never heard of Beaphar so couldn't help.
Re: Worming Tablet question... I don't think it really matters if you change brand, but usually the ones from the Vets are far better, far more effective than ones you can buy over the counter . If you cant get to your Vets , I would give her what you bought and then go back to Milbermax when she is due again
Re: Worming Tablet question... Thank you. They started asking me about active ingredients - of which I know nothing - so a little worried that the one I've bought isn't going to cover everything!
Re: Worming Tablet question... Beaphar contains piperazine, a very old molecule which is only really effective against roundworms in dogs. Milbemax is a broad spectrum wormer that covers most things including lungworm. If you are in a lungworm area, it could be dangerous to just use Beaphar - I would phone your vet back and ask what sort of problems are endemic in your area and take their advice then.
Re: Worming Tablet question... Thanks! Think I'm just going to have to find time to go to the vets tomorrow! Don't want to risk it and I know she is ok with Milbemax. Oh well, waste of £5! Glad it wasn't more.
Re: Worming Tablet question... Unfortunately the ones you can buy off the shelf in the pet store are pretty rubbish, and if you can get your hands on the proper stuff it's much better to use that wherever possible. It won't matter if you're a few days late with it.
