Our 2 year old's neck has a considerable amount of dark hair growing in on one side. This happened about a month ago. At first I thought it was dirty but it didn't come off with water and shampoo. Both parents are yellow from very good lines. Any idea?

Fungal infection? Are the individual hairs growing out black, or is it a general patch of black. Fungal infections can make the skin go black and discolor the hair (altho usually a reddish color).

My yellow boy does have one or two individual black hairs here and there on his coat - only noticeable if you’re really closely inspecting.

I don't think so. Half of his hair is turning grey/black but the fur closest to the skin is yellow. Skin is normal. Looks like dirt but it's not.

I did not mention it to the breeder and will not for personal reasons. I saw that website....thanks for sending it.

Maybe some dye got on him if the hair is yellow at the roots? My boy had blue patches from something - can’t remember from what now, it was a while ago - might’ve been something he lay on.
