Yesterday Harley was feeling better (she was 6 months old yesterday). Firstly she actually wanted food and her poo was back to normal. About 1.30pm she picked up my house key, walked to the door, dropped it then came in the front room, grabbed her lead, took this to the door then sat there!! I guessed she wanted to go out. Since last Thursday she hasn't been out for a walk as she was too poorly. Anyway, off we went to walk through the local woods and go to the duck pond. Well, due to all the recent rain, the duck pond (very large one!) water was very high. We walked around the duck pond and Harley decided to go and stand on a platform (which is where you can feed ducks from safely). The platform was partially under water. I called Harley back to me, but she decided to go as fast as she could on the platform.....yep, you've guessed it, she suddenly realised there was no floor beneath her as she had landed in the duck pond : after a few seconds, her head popped out of the water and she swam to me. She got her front paws on the platform but couldn't get out (the bank were too slippery for her to get out too!), so I had to haul all 18kg of her out of the water......luckily she wears a harness!! 1. I'm glad she can swim and seemed to enjoy it 2. Hubby had to come meet us with towels as it was quite chilly ;D 3. I've severely hurt my neck and shoulder Here are some pics of a very wet, muddy Harley!!!! http://flic.kr/p/jJ7Kfp http://flic.kr/p/jJaDfy
Re: Yesterday! As you say... it's good she can swim and good she wears a harness! Hope it doesn't set your neck and shoulder recovery back too much. Clare
Re: Yesterday! Typical. You spend days worrying about them. You turn your back and they throw themselves in a cold pond Seriously though. Glad she's up to mischief again. Hope the neck and shoulder improve soon. Not the best thing for puppy wrestling.
Re: Yesterday! She is beautiful! Glad she's feeling better - hope your back and shoulder will be okay. Take it easy with those, they can take a long time to recover from. The ability to haul your dog in unforeseen circumstances is one of the advantages of a harness, I agree!
Re: Yesterday! Oh dear! I do hope you are OK Ternaya That kind of thing happening was what actually started me taking Lilly to swimming lessons. The therapy is kind of a good side-effect!
Re: Yesterday! Ouch, hope you are OK Ternaya, Harley looks like "who me". Good job she had a harness on or you could have been in real trouble. Alls well that ends well x
Re: Yesterday! Helen - I think she was trying to do the 'I'm so sweet and innocent' look, and succeeded I'm going to have a search and see where we can take her to swim, but somewhere she can get out safely (or drag my hubby with us!). Harley is definitely a lab who loves water and mud........I do too (usually) ;D My neck / shoulders will be sore for a few days/a week, I've got another surgery in a few months so hopefully it will settle for a bit before then.
