Well, after 7 long weeks of cage rest Ziggy my Clumber spaniel is allowed a little off lead exercise! ;D He broke his elbow and needed a pin and a screw to fix it followed by very strict cage rest. Today he came out with me off lead for the first time. I had a dummy in my pocket which held him transfixed and the thought of having a hoolie never even crossed his mind. It will be a little while before we can start retrieving training again but he is desperate to get back to work. ;D http://youtu.be/v6PoCno6ebQ

Re: Ziggy is back!
SUCH good news Heidrun. We have missed that handsome boy. You are clearly pleased to have him out too ;D
Ziggy has always been the one to preserve my sanity when Murffi is doing his best to drive me crazy! So, yes I'm delighted to be out with him again. ;D
Re: Ziggy is back! My Lab at 16 weeks broke his elbow and has a screw and 2 pins. I followed his recuperation plan to the letter, but it was longer than 7 weeks. Ziggy looks great ;D Just wanted to say that Drift is now 8 years old and apart from throwing his leg out when he runs, he seems to be fine despite being told he had arthritis in his elbow at 10 months. He takes Synoquin daily. This is just to cheer you up that Ziggy will go on for years hopefully, without any repercussions.
Re: Ziggy is back! Thanks Stacia. I had a long conversation with the surgeon who reassured me that Ziggy would not have any lasting damage from the injury and no arthritis caused by it in later life. The break was unusual with the fracture in the larger part of the condyle, normally an elbow break presents much worse apparently, and a totally shattered elbow is not uncommon. Just by looking at him walking or running I wouldn't be able to say which one of his legs had he injury. So hopefully he will progress in this manner and get back to full fitness soon.
Re: Ziggy is back! Way to go Ziggy! He looks soooo keen to get that dummy soon there will be no stopping him.
