BUGS AND PROBLEMS HERE PLEASE :)

Welcome back to everyone! The next few days is bound to unearth a few bugs and this is a good place to post about any issues you are having with the new forum interface so that we can get them fixed as quickly as possible. Thank you

 

The logging out issue should be resolved now. Is it still causing you a problem?

The new posts thing is proving to be problematic. The overall plan is to move us to a specialist server, but in the meantime you can use these little arrows to take you directly to new posts in each thread.

I have been through this thread and deleted a lot of your helpful posts, so apologies for the necessity of that! Hopefully all issues I have deleted are now resolved, or are sadly unresolvable. To let you know where we are at right now, here is a little summary.

Outstanding issues we are currently working on:

- New Topics
- Latest Activity
- When posting if you try and quote more than one person, the previous quote is deleted

Explanations regarding other issues raised:

- As far as we are aware, the lack of zoom on mobile phones is not something we can resolve in the near future.
The problem is that due to Google changing the way that they prioritise their search engine, all sites now have to be mobile responsive. And mobile responsive sites are set up in a such a way as to remove the need to zoom, by making the material more accessible. This works brilliantly for people with good eyesight (and people like me who are short sighted and need glasses to stop bumping into stuff/crashing their car, but can see really near stuff with or without them!)
Unfortunately, if you need reading glasses to read for example the contacts list on your phone, you will now need them to read forums and websites too. This is going to be something which impacts you across the board online, because all websites are turning mobile responsive in response to Google's change.
Hopefully in the near future web developers will address the issue, but for now there isn't anything we can do, accept to assure you that you look fabulous in your glasses and all the best people need to wear them all the time anyway.
(This is not the same as the tiny tablet display issue, which we hope will be fixed again with some code asap)

- Scrolling down to see the forum list. This is something you will need to do temporarily due to the way in which the information is displayed, but as soon as the New Topics button is working you can just click on that instead, so hopefully it won't be an inconvenience for long! The Latest topics section isn't too far down either, at least on my mobile.

- Quick reply box size. I have looked into this and as far as I can see it is not something that can be resolved easily, if at all. The box size will grow as you type on a Mac or PC, but will stay small on a mobile device. Hopefully this isn't too fiddly for essay-like posts such as this one!

Summary:

We are doing our best to sort out the unresolved issues as quickly as possible. Hopefully for the majority of people using the forum on the go will be easier than before when this is complete.

We all struggle with changes to a format that has worked for us in the past, even if it is now going to work better than before. To help everyone adjust we are making a comprehensive FAQ. This should be posted up fairly soon, and fingers crossed will help everyone to get used to the alterations and continue to enjoy our lovely forum together

Any further questions or issues, please do let us know and we will do our very best to answer them or work out a solution!

 

Good that most of the things on the list are hopefully fixable, and understandable that not all are.

Re. the text size on mobiles... Is there a way to increase the default font size when typing a reply? I find it ok myself as I can read it, but it is quite a lot smaller than the size of the rest of the font. See below for an example of relative differences of 'replying' font size versus 'already posted' font size on a mobile. This is a screen shot from my iphone, not cropped.

 

Found another thing which is not a bug but which is slightly inconvenient. When you edit a post that contains an image you don't see the BBCode, you just see the image. So you can no longer easily resize the image in the post - that was a handy thing on the old forum as it let you resize members' Flickr photos etc when they had chosen a tiny image size.

 

Still unable to preview my posts. It tells me I am invalid!

Don't wish to sound negative, but I reckon if you don't mention a problem no one has a chance to fix it.

I reckon you are all doing very well and we are very lucky to have such knowledgable people who are prepared to put in so much work on a voluntary basis.

 

I keep trying to read Gypsy's guide dog puppy latest post...and it won't load...I get a "fatal error" exceeding 30 seconds message...I can try a screen shot if you need it.

I tried the "last post" button next to Boogie's message.
I tried the "show me the first new message posted" button on the left of the topic.
And I tried to just open from the first page/topic....

all 3 attempts gave me the same fatal error 30 seconds message.

Similarly, in the My Walk topic...I can't get that to load either, although I don't get the 30 seconds message....

 

Look at the very end of the article I posted then, it tells you what to do next.

 

I'm not sure if this qualifies as a bug, but I can't get past page 20 on any board. Specifically the boards with a lot of history will only allow me to page 20 and then there's no options beyond that? Am I missing something?

 

I can't change my profile picture. If I click on it, it just says save or copy, but I want to change it

 

Sorry Pippa I shouldn't be so impatient, something I need to work on I know you are all working very hard to resolve all the remaining bugs which is not an enviable task I am sure. I am not a technical person AT ALL or I would offer to help, I think I would find learning Russian easier than anything to do with computers, servers etc. etc. it's literally double Dutch to me . Thank you to you and your team for trying to sort this our for us. Again my apologies x x

 

Hi...I Have been excepted as a member and have had chats already but for some reason when I return to the feed I don't have 'authoriziation' the talk! Any ideas?

 

How odd. Sorry about that! For some reason, your posts are coming up unapproved now. I have approved this one (thought it still has an 'unapproved' box at the bottom, and will try and find out what has caused the problem - let me know if you still can't see this or read it pippa@pippamattinson.com if you can't post.

 

I had 4 messages unapproved in my box. 2 from pepperchops and 2 from another user. They showed on my phone as visitor messages. I just approved all 4. I remember pepper pot and the other user had been in a thread with snowbunny saying hello so just automatically did an approve.
Not sure why they showed as visitor messages.
Only on my phone so can't look properly.

I have been through this list now and deleted the things that are either: problems that are solved, duplications of the same problem, or in between chat. Tomorrow, there will hopefully be several of us working on the list, so I wanted to make it more manageable.

Thank you all for your patience Please do continue to add any problems where the forum is not working as it should, as you come across them. If you are simply a bit lost as to where to find controls or buttons that others seem to have already figured out - then posting in the technical help forum might be a good idea.

I have found how to change the default font size, selected it as a larger size for everyone and unfortunately it still looks the same on my screen! I will look into this further, but at this point I have sadly hit a bit of a brick wall

Something I have noticed on quite a few threads (and in fact on this one just now) there is a Page 2 button where no Page 2 exists. If I click on it takes me back to the top of Page 1 and the Page 2 option has disappeared.

Cannot get Daily Fun Trivia thread to load. I am still participating but numbers seem down perhaps this is why.

Have tried both I pad and desktop.
