so proud of Sam today he actually swam , very briefly , but he did it :)

Then the incident happened, for this part insert much creative swearing while reading

So great time at beach with the swim etc until two joggers appeared . They had been running at top part of beach then for some stupid reason as they got level with us the started running towards us ( on the shore) . As they run past ( at this point Sam in water) the older guy says on way past ' you never heard of a f.... Lead' . I said excuse me ! And turned back to kids etc . Then Sam decides that's his chance and runs after them . I took off after Sam to bring him back . At which point ignorant jogger shouts ' dogs aren't allowed on the beach' , I ignored this and then the horrible man kicked Sam in the throat 3 times .... Well I was absolutely spitting bullets at this . I nicely informed the man he should enjoy his visit from the Garda ( police) . His daughter then started pulling the man away saying ' I'm scared of dogs ' which I totally appreciate, but why then choose to run towards the only dog on the beach !!!! I was soooo furious . I know we should be able to keep sam under control and we are working v hard on it , but really so annoyed at the kicking there was absolutely no need for it , and I was actually pleased that Sam hadn't jumped up at them , he was literally just running beside them . And there are absolutely no restrictions on any beach throughout the county . All beaches dogs are allowed off lead too .

Sorry big long rant but they really annoyed a ginger mama

That is disgusting , to kick or even to threat to kick a dog, let alone a puppy, is just diabolical  I do believe that some people actively court controversy where dogs are concerned , just to make some sort of point , a statement if you like , but physical actions against a dog is not something I would tolerate . Well done on the swimming Sam :)

Big rant... I think you sound very restrained considering what happened. That's just dreadful. I'm so sorry that you and Sam and the kids had to go through that. Not surprised you were spitting bullets. Makes me wonder why anyone would kick out at an animal (or human for that matter). Hey, what goes around comes around... I always think that, so doubtless he'll get his comeuppance. Well done for the swim, Sam!

Awk it just really left bad taste in my mouth afterwards . My 7 yr old cried :( . Funnily enough though, when the joggers were running back towards us AGAIN ( like seriously what is wrong with them ), don't know if it was my husband walking towards them ,or my 16 year old with camera made them think again and they made very speedy exit over the dunes . Little did they know my husband is the calmest most level headed person ever and he was only looking for the dropped clicker :) . They should def have been more concerned about the ginger :D. And I really hope it doesn't have any future impact on Sam as he really is just a gentle daft bundle of love xx

Well done on the swimming :)
Some people really are horrible . Have you contacted the police? I would personally as that attack was unprovoked! For them to come back is disgraceful! Next time I would try and take a photo so the police can take action. Really feel for all of you. I hope your daughter and Sam are ok.

That's such a nasty thing to do - I'd have been furious. I hope Sam doesn't suffer any after effects.

You are absolutely more restrained than I am. If that had been my pup I don't think the guy would have been able to run after I'd given him a good kicking. What absolutely appalling behaviour. Hope you, Sam and the family are now recovering, but definitely report it, unprovoked attacks should not be allowed and he deliberately set out to court controversy by running at you and Sam.

Well done Sam on the swimming and look forward to more photos of him and he family enjoying the beach and sea :D

Here's a link for you to help with adding photos to a post from Flickr :)

My daughter got a nice mug shot of him , still contemplating the gards , although a well placed face book post may be just as good . Wouldn't take long before I get his name :) . One benefit and drawback of rural living .... It's two degrees of separation rather 7 :) . I must admit I was so cross , shocked and devastated at same time , I did have big cry when I got home . I felt I'd let Sam down , angry with the man and furious my kids witnessed this . We barely raise our voices to kids or dogs or cats ,never mind use of physical force .

With a nice mug shot I would make a visit to the garda to make an official complaint - what if he appears again and does the same thing or something worse, nasty person that he is. You can all ways add to FB as well to see if anyone knows him without posting about the incident itself.

@Sammyboy Oh poor you, what an absolutely disgrace those two joggers were. I think I'd report it to the police and pop the picture on FB as well. I don't think you let Sam down at all. Funny how we think that isn't it? Today the beach was really busy (as I've said in my previous thread Mabel is often fearful) anyway a young girl (aged about 15) with two friends suddenly rushes at Mabel totally erratically. She was wearing a orange fluorescent top and totally filled the footpath. I really couldn't work out what she was doing. Mabel growls I move very quickly and this girl growls back and shouts if you want to come and play with me, dog. I'll show you what growling means and you won't win. I was so upset as like you I'd felt Id let Mabel down. I kept her on the lead and she walked past loads of screaming children and the was rewarded with sausage.

Well done Sam for his little swim.

Brilliant that sam swam. :D So sorry you had to go through such a horrible experience though. I don't understand why anyone would kick a dog but to kick a puppy who is obviously playing is unthinkable. He'd have hot a mouthful from me that's for sure.

I would have been straight the Garda station in the village where beach is , but it's closed on Sunday:rolleyes: part time only . Apparently crime only happens Monday-Wednesday between 9am and 5pm  ... So I'm glad I didn't storm off in a fit as that would have been v embarrassing :D

Thanks so much for the link maccied !

Neither of you have let your pups down. It's the nasty, ignorant people you both encountered who have let themselves down.

My two don't like orange fluorescent tops either Claire. Then again my two don't like much.

Oh my gosh, that's awful. Hopefully Sam just thought it was rough play, dogs are very forgiving. That man sounds like he was looking for trouble. He's such a great example to his own daughter, how sad. :(

and sometimes that does seem the most sensible approach to take for our dogs - the world seems full of wierdos today

Floppy hats, bobble hats, sunglasses to name just a few extras for training purposes - oh and beards/moustaches if you can :D :D

Oh what an awful experience. There are such idiots out there - the whole beach & they run to a dog that one of them is scared of - beggars belief, it really does.
