Food Hound

Ok I'm not really sure where to post this but as you all may have similar situations, my yellow lab, Dallas, is a food hound. Today I ran into the gas station to grab some water and when I got back to my car there was a 1/4 to 1/2 eaten cliff bar laying on my passenger seat. (White chocolate macadamia nut) my vets office was closed and so I rushed home and gave her a tablespoon of hydrogen peroxide to induce vomiting because I know macadamia nuts and chocolate are very bad for doggos.
**She has eaten a large piece of chocolate cake in the past and my vet I instructed me to induce vomiting. So I followed the same precautions. So im pretty much asking, do you think she will be okay? I'm such a worry wart and honestly a regular at the vets office for how often I bring her in. Please some advice?

 

Ring and ask your vet. They know what is best to do.

 

The chocolate is probably not an issue (she probably didn't eat enough) but macadamia nuts might be especially if raw. Not wanting to stress you but because of the macadamia nuts I'd speak with a vet.

 

I just googled the ingredients of a white choc and macadamia Clif bar. Looks like it's got very little in it by way of chocolate or macadamia. A 68g bar has 5% roasted macadamias, so that's about 3.5g of macadamias. So, do call the vet to double check, but don't panic.

After you call the vet send a complaint about false advertising to your local consumer goods regulation agency. "Exploding with Roasted Macadamia Nuts" the Clif bar is not....!

My first Labrador ate about 100g of macadamias on one occasion (after he broke into my parents' Esky) and he was fine, no doubt helped by the fact that he didn't chew a single one of them. They all came out the other end completely unmarked.

 

I too would call the vets for advice. Hope Dallas is ok.

 

Even if a vet's office is closed there should be a vet who will answer phone calls and there are emergency vets open.

I would have been wary of giving her peroxide myself as it could burn her tongue and throat, I would have left it to a vet.

 

Yes I was very weary about doing it myself as well but my vet told me how much and to do it myself because it could be too late for her to do it by the time i got her to the vet.

Oh thank you so much! Oh goodness, well thank goodness for that. She knew she shouldn't have got into the bar as soon as I got back to the car, the face of guilt was uncanny!
