Hi, My black labrador pup is now 10 months old and I'm slightly concerned about his development. He is about 23 inches in height (as of recently) but around 22kg in weight (last time he was weighed around a month ago). He really struggled digesting dog food, wet and dry, until a few weeks ago, and now we can feed him normal dry food with water. We were feeding him pasta mixed with dry food previously. Obviously this is not ideal, but the only thing he could tolerate and the vet didn't seem too concerned. He also had worms quite badly when he was younger, meaning he struggled to keep on weight until we eventually got rid of them. Just wondering what was the 'norm' as to height and weight for a lab and whether I should be concerned? I see a few young labradors when I take him out for a walk and they just seem slightly bigger than him. He came from a working dog background. I'm hoping, as he is now tolerating proper dog food, his weight will have improved a little since his last weighing. Thank you!
Cooper was about 34 Kg, but she was also 24" tall at 10 months. She is a very tall, fairly thin, Field Style Lab.
Hi Saskia, one of my Labs weighed under 25 kilos at that age, but weights vary so widely that some dogs will be just fine weighing 22 kg at 10 months whereas others would be far too thin. So you need to look at your dog's appearance and behaviour rather than his weight. My boy weighed around 20kg at 10 months but both his mum and dad were little. How big do you imagine him getting? He's now 13 months and still only 22kg! He is perhaps a little on the slim side but certainly not through lack of eating! He's just a very active, fit boy and still intact.
Does obviously vary a lot - the article mentioned above is great, and there is a couple of good images knocking about that show what the shape of your dog should ideally be, rather than the size and weight. I suspect that would put your mind at ease. Jax is coming up for 10 months and is nearly 30kg.

That's a little more reassuring. He's obviously not going to be a massive lab since he's still quite 'small' compared other labs on the forum. He's about 22/23/inches tall, but has no real bulk and is quite leggy. He is very healthy and eats like its going to be his last meal. I have posted some pictures of him below at 10 months I think he was also the smallest of the litter. As long as he's healthy that's all I care about, but I just wondered if any one else has any sort of experience with small labs and the rate at which they mature. Thank you!
The photo links aren't working unfortunately. Which hosting company are you using? If you are measuring at the shoulder than that height is quite normal. And the legginess is just his age. He'll fill out a bit as he matures.

My girl was around 23kg at 10months and much the same height. Being fut and healthy is of greater importance than what the scales say and being lean is good, as long as it's not too lean. There is a 'sticky' on one of the forums which describes ideal body formation which you can refer to
