    Hi everyone,

For those who read all of my posts on lucius' health issues over the past few months you will know we battled with many issues with him ranging from his eyesight and hip dysplasia to chronic food and skin allergies.

On the 28th of Febuary we had to put our beloved Lucius to sleep. He had become suddenly sick three days before and had to be hospitalized overnight on a drip as he quickly became dehydrated. A quick blood test diagnosed him with pancreatitis.

He was sent home the next day as he was doing better but by the night he had suddenly gotten worse, was very lethargic and wobbly so we knew we had to do something. By the time we got him to an emergency vet they rushed him in and twenty minutes of testing later we got the worst news...

Lucius had nercotising pancreatitis and sepsis in his abdomen, and was maybe an hour away of going into septic shock. His white blood cells were gone, meaning either he had a very weak immune system to begin with or his body had been fighting this for some time and he just couldnt do it anymore.

He would have had to go through two surgeries and the vet said in his condition he wouldnt have a good chance of pulling through.

So, we decided to help our boy pass over the rainbow bridge. He was 5 years old and had been loved so much in that time. [IMG]

I think it was just such a shock because three days earlier he was playing about like the Lucius we knew. He even stole food! Which wasn't like him but then the day he passed he wouldn't eat anything. Not even his favourite rice pudding.

Thank you for saying that, it's so difficult for us because he was so young. We asked the vet who put him to sleep if we were doing the right thing because we just didn't know what else to do for him and she told us it was a miracle he'd lived to be 5 considering all his health issues. She was surprised he was still wagging his tail and walking about because most other dogs wouldn't have been able to stand. She told us he must have been so determined to make us happy that the reason he'd gone down hill so fast was he most likely had this a while but he'd been acting normal because he wanted us to be happy. That sounds so like him too. Always wagging his tail. Even when he sprained it and was in a lot of pain once he refused to stop wagging it

So sorry for your loss. It's so hard, I know.
I had to say goodbye to my Lucan last Thursday after a lifetime of health issues. He was a determined, stubborn old dog who wasn't expected to make double figures but hung in there till he was 11.5.
    They leave huge holes. :(
