Re: Lumpy loves the water. Shadow definitely feels the cold! He was shivering this morning when I stopped to talk to a friend. Poor skinny boy. Their friend Buster jumps into the streams regardless of the weather. But I think mine will only learn the love of water when the ambient temperature rises above -20C
Re: Lumpy loves the water. Be careful they don't get too cold jumping in cold water. A few months ago Harley had cold tail syndrome. I thought it was her back legs as she struggled to stand up, but it was her tail - she couldn't move it for several days and needed anti-inflammatories and painkillers for a week. It is apparently quite common in gun dog breeds such as labs.
Re: Lumpy loves the water. I'm planning to keep a bit of weight on him. Duck season starts in Autumn and ends in Winter. I've seen a lot of cold gundogs who look like they'd rather be somewhere else due to the cold, but never a Lab. I'm not sure that it would help keep his tail warm.
