Re: Smileys not working? I'm slowly beginning to unravel this mystery. The avatars that are showing fine are ones that people have linked to on other sites, rather than uploading directly into this forum. The ones that are not showing are being called via the forum software from the database. According to the database they still exist, but somewhere inbetween the two they have become lost. I'll keep tinkering and see what I can find out.

Re: Smileys not working? For those that are interested it would seem that the avatars are still in the folder they are supposed to be in. However the forum encrypts the names and stores the recall info in the database. Somewhere along the way there is a mistake in this process. It looks like somehow the permissions for the folder are wrong.
Re: Smileys not working? Right that should be fixed now. Unfortunately all previously uploaded avatars are unlikely to work, but you should now be able to re-upload one and have it display. The smileys should be there too. Let me know if there are any issues!
Re: Smileys not working? For those of you that are interested the problem was caused by me! We used to be on the URL thelabradorretriever.co.uk and mirrored on this one. We recently moved everything onto this URL and stopped using the old version. However I forgot to update all the settings in the forum so the smileys and avatars were all in the new place, but the forum was still looking in the old one. A few alterations in the settings later and we're good to go!

Ah the joys of technology [/quote] I guess the reason it seemed as if it might be browser specific is that some people had the old images cached on their computers whilst some didn't. It was only when the cached files were replaced that the images started to vanish.
