All that happens with physical stuff is they get fitter and stronger.

Yup, absolutely. If you just do more, they can do more, so you do more....

Totally true...I have never seen Dexter 'appear' physically tired yet.....other dogs he plays with flop on the floor!im always careful though not to let Dex do too much,he might not know he's pegged out....so it's for me to bewatchful of how long he's been running about for .The EIC issue scares me .......

Dexter just gave me a great idea.

Build treadmills for Labradors! We could solve the Energy Crisis in an afternoon

So it's a "Yes" to tug toys as long as I don't intend to use her as a gun dog.

Great, something to tire her out.

The amount of energy she has is not compatible with the amount of exercise she is allowed.

If I were to play tug with my dogs, which I am not ::), and if the dog really loves it then I would use it as a reward. Some of the top agility trainers use it as an easy recyclable reward. But very strict rules apply as described by previous posts. I wouldn't use it to try and tire out a puppy. There is a danger that it might actually do the opposite and really hype up the pup.
