Definitely don't push the cone as you may need to use one in the future so a gentle introduction is best as others have said. Hattie had the same reaction when we had to use one after her spay it really upset me :'( I don't think you are being too soft at all. I hope Scout's paw is a little better today x
Re: Todays mishaps :0( Was the plastic cone the see-through variety or solid (let no light through)? With the solid/non-see-through ones they can get stressed because suddenly their vision is hugely curtailed. It's scary. The see through ones are better. As it's her front feet that are the problem you may find that she can still reach them with a soft or inflatable cone. But she may do ok with a see-through traditional cone if you haven't tried that already
Re: Todays mishaps :0( Its much better today and she is not limping anymore. Its still there but not raw and weeping, All nice and dry thank god. Iv still put the bandage and sock back on because she still wants to lick it. I think tomorrow I will not put it on and stay in all day with her making sure she doesn't lick it. She is definitely more of herself today too, no more sad eyes. The cone is white, it does let light through but you cant see through it {if that makes sense} Thanks so much for all the help and advice, you have saved me about £50+
