Hello, I am concerned about my 10 week old lab x golden retriever. At 8 weeks he came home to us unsteady on his feet but he could walk, very clumsy. Since then he has grown a lot but very unsteady on his feet. He cant walk more than 3 steps without falling over. I've started to carry him out to the garden or helping to support his back legs as he just cant move I've read about wobblers/hip dysplasia. We have a sling and he has been on the ground very occasionally to sit outside but we havent walked him as such. I make sure he has plenty of sleep and hes on a tails diet. I am so worried hes got some major issue. Waiting for the vet to call me back as hes got worse since she saw him last tuesday
Sorry I meant to add that wobbles/hip dysplasia appear not to show symptoms until he is older. I dont let him climb stairs either. He has played in the house running around with my children before but no obvious injury that I am aware of, he doesnt seem in pain and just frustrated he cant get anywhere fast
Hello Just spotted your post. I don't really have anything to offer in terms of practical advice, but just wanted to send positive thoughts to you and your puppy anyway. Sounds like you're doing the right thing by pursuing this with your vet, that's exactly what I would do until I had some answers. I'd be concerned too as it doesn't sound normal puppy movement to me (in my admittedly very limited experience of only ever having had one puppy...), I really hope you get to the bottom of it and it is something that can be easily sorted / grown out of. Do let us know how you get on and if you've had any news from the vets. xx
Hey thanks for replying. Unfortunately he has a rare auto recessive condition called degeneration of the cerebellum. He is going to be put to sleep on Monday we are so devastated he was only 11 weeks old and so happy.
