Hi - Following our vaccines for our dog we are starting to try and get him socialised with other dogs and puppies with friends and family members who we can trust and are in a similar boat.

However today we took our boy to the beach with another pup who is 15 weeks old and he was fine at first initial greet everything seemed okay, we positively reinforced the good behaviours but then things took a turn quite quickly (both were on a lead). Our dog who is very good in the house work with him everyday fine on walks when its just us started to act "boisterous" barking jumping and even nipped the backside of the other dog when they were walking along, nothing serious just a little one but obviously it wasn't okay, they then continued to almost "bicker" the entire time from then on in, growling at each other barking and the other dog doing the same back, with each one almost taking turns to cause a scene. It seemed to us like an almost power play between the two, we cant seem to figure out why they'd sit fine with treats but obviously our dog was getting full on and i dont want to use nasty but it did feel like that.

So, later in the day we even brought round a mature dog later in the day (10 year old spaniel) and he was exactly the same sort of "going" for the other dog, barking, nipping, growling. Any postive things he did we reinforced and made him sit and down for when he was being naughty.

We are looking for some advice on how to prevent this happening and for all dogs to have a positive experience without him getting worse, we have noticed on other walks he is always affectionate with people but other dogs he backs off and almost doesn't like their company or wants to know them, and around the wrong dog could be bad.

Any advice would be very beneficial or if someone has experienced this in the past that can help

Pull her out of play when she gets carried away with barking or see if she will carry a toy around. But do not be scared to let her play with other dogs. It does more damage then letting her play and bark.
