Hi we have a 1 year old male who whenever someone comes to the door he gets very excited and wants to greet them. My young son 13 generally holds him after I have asked for a sit but when he isn’t around I’m still asking for a sit but cannot guarantee a stay whilst I do what has to be done. Any ideas please
Does he have a crate you could pop him in temporarily until he's calmed down enough to be let out when your son isn't around, or even another room you can shut him in until he is feeling more relaxed again? It's probably best not to try to get him to sit by yourself if you don't think that he will, as the command will become less effective every time he gets up without being asked to. There is some good advice on dealing with over excitement here: https://www.thelabradorsite.com/excited-puppy/ and here: https://www.thelabradorsite.com/dog-calming/
Hi, yes he does and I can start putting him in there or I could just pop him in the kitchen thank you. I will read up these aswell thank you
