We just got a new chocolate lab today. She is almost 5 months old. We played most of the day and put her in the crate. Within 10 minutes she peed and pooped in it and smeared it everywhere. I put her out and cleaned it. 20 minutes later she walks over to the crate, squats and pees all in it. She is almost 5 months old. Any suggestions. She doesn't see. To want to go outside and pee

Hi and welcome to the forum from the Beanwood pack :)

wrt your new puppy, there are a few things here to consider...firstly, 5 months old, what is your pups background? Has she come from the breeder? Or from a previous owner?

Has she been crate trained? Expecting a puppy to be toilet trained from day one, is a huge ask from her, even if she has been previously crate trained the upheaval of moving into a new home is sure to be very unsettling.

Playing all day on her first day probably was a bit much for her, it would have been a better idea to gently introduce her to her new home, allowing her to explore at her own speed, with plenty of rest and toilet breaks.

Help her understand that her crate is a safe place to rest by giving her chew toys, her meals and quiet time in there. Take her out at regular intervals for her toilet training. (and obviously play and training..) Praise verbally and give her treats when she does go potty. Even if she has been toilet-trained, I would go back to basics on that score considering her new environment.

Here are some more detailed links on the above:

Good luck and do let us know how you get on! :)
