They don't phase Mira at all. Our neighbours had a big bonfire and a lot of fireworks in their field next to us. During the first lot she never even opened an eyelid, but when they had more later she sat on her stool at the window and watched them with great excitement!
Jes72 you have my sympathies. Just as Halloween ended fireworks parties started lasting up until Monday!! Mabel was fine in the garden but once she came in the house she was terrible. It improved when we gave her some rescue remedy, had the tv really loud, with OH and myself singing with a large glass of wine.
It was the Diwali festival yesterday...lots of firecrackers going off in the street and park opposite...we could all really notice them...Dexter didn't raise his head.I was quite interested to see what he would be like when I took him out for his bedtime toilet......When he heard far off noises his ears went back a bit but didn't break his pace but when it was a closer crack,like a gun ,his head shot up and he looked raring to go! X
More loud bangs last night - Homer was a bit better this time, no more climbing behind the tellie or pulling out wires, a bit of carpet scratching in the hall though. I don't think the house will survive much more!
Homer was fine as a younger pup, we took him down to watch the fire works across the river, guy talks and new year. Last year he was a bit more anxious, Hubble was trying to find a cd in the living room cupboard when a loud bang went off and after that he tried to get into, behind or on top of the cupboard whenever there was a bang. This year he's been completely distressed, scratching, panting and trying to get into the most impossible spaces. I hate to see him so anxious, especially when he is normally such a happy confident dog.
Riley seems to have got worse with age too and it's inversely related to how well he's coping with shot.....strange contrary dog! I'm going to do some work on it in the run up to new year and see if we can improve things. Glad it's over for this year!
If only it was just November 5th They are still going off. A deceased rocket fell into out garden yesterday, Molly found the remains and thought it an excellent toy and was most reluctant to relinquish it. I expect that every Birthday party, Christmas party, Wedding and New Year Celebration will culminate in a noisy pyrotechnic display from now until Twelth Night. And that's not counting the little ***** who thought it was good fun to let off atomic bangers in the Memorial Gardens just as we walked past last week. They were so LOUND that my automatic response was to duck and cover my ears. Poor Molly was terrified ( she doesn't usually bother) and I had to hang on for dear life as a terrified dog pulled me most of the way home. Bah humbug
Total idiots but thats the problem we can do all we can to make sure our dogs behave well and are able to cope with stuff. All it takes is one donkey to undo months of work, makes me soooooooooo angry
My nine and a half year old Lab has suddenly become frightened of fireworks, we did have them Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Last night was the gale and some things were blowing about and making soft banging sounds, he became very frightened, was panting and shaking and tried to climb all over me; so sad to see. We are picking up on Saturday, his third time, so I hope he won't suddenly become scared of gunfire.
