6 week chocolate lab puppy

my puppy is 6 weeks old and just saw the vet. I bought her with the understanding she was 8 weeks. My vet has m me wetting her kibble down but she will not eat it even soggy. We're using Whole Earth Farms Puppy Food. If I give her the wet food then she eats it like she starving. Help! I'd like to get her to kibble only but she'll pick the wet food out of mixed kibble if I offer her it that way.

 

Just wanted to say a warm welcome to the forum. I don't have any experience with pups younger than 8 weeks, it is not regarded as wise to remove pups at 6 weeks old from their mum, however it is not your fault and what's done is done. My thoughts would be if the puppy is well in all other respects..(weight wise and health status..) and the wet puppy food is good quality then let her have that for now, at least you know she is eating and getting hydrated from her feed. I guess at six weeks she will need 4 small meals a day? I did wonder whether her puppy teeth had erupted fully yet?

I`m sorry that you were duped about your pups age, that is just awful , and yes, we do advocate that pups stay with Mum and siblings until 8 weeks of age it is the ethos of this forum, but it seems that this wasn't your fault and not intentionally bought too early .

 

Welcome from Hattie 8 years and my rescue Charlie 5 years. I am so sorry you were tricked into buying a puppy at 6 weeks which is totally not your fault but it is the fault of the unscrupulous behaviour of the breeder. I also don't have any experience of such a young puppy but @Beanwood has given you some good advice and if in doubt contact your Vet. Helen

 

Hi and welcome to the forum. Did you research your breeder before seeing the puppies? Did you see the health certificates and x-ray results of the parents. Did you see mum and/or dad with your puppy and your puppy with it's litter mates. Apart from that I can't recommend highly enough Pippa's book The Happy Puppy Handbook which is full of lots of information and advice covering those early days and months with your new puppy. I read it twice before collecting my girl from her breeder and made my OH read it as well. I referred to it whenever I wasn't sure and found the advice very practical.

 

Are you feeding the same food the breeder did? Even though the breeder sounds less than desirable (and the food may or may not be as well) it's for the good of puppy to continue on that food so as to reduce the changes she must go through at this time. Consider at least one big bag of food before switching.

I assume puppy has been Vetted, wormed, vaccinated. Do vaccinations coincide with not eating? Vaccinations might upset her tummy.
